Why Is Everyone Buying the Jaecoo 7?
The Jaecoo 7 topped the UK's new-car chart in September with 10,813 registrations, which is quite the result for a name many drivers are still getting used to. We look at what's winning buyers over, from the bold styling and generous kit to the seven-year warranty and the overall deal. We also cover what you should check before joining the queue.

You might still be getting used to the name but Britain's car buyers clearly aren't waiting for you.
With 10,813 registrations in September, the Jaecoo 7 topped the UK's monthly new-car chart, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
For a badge with no decades of history on British roads, that's a remarkable result.
So what's the pull? The styling, the kit, the warranty or simply a deal tempting enough to make people take a punt on something new?
Registration figures tell us how many cars hit the road. They don't tell us why each buyer signed on the dotted line. The Jaecoo's offer, though, leaves plenty of clues.
It looks the part
The Jaecoo 7 doesn't do subtle, with an upright stance, a large grille and squared-off lines giving it a premium presence that feels oddly familiar.
Handsome or a bit much? That's down to you. But if you want an SUV that fills a parking space with authority, it's easy to see why this one makes the shortlist.
Looks only get a car so far, of course. Plenty of models dazzle on the forecourt, then fall flat the moment you climb into the back, load the boot or drive them home.

The equipment gives buyers something tangible
Brand heritage is a fuzzy idea. Heated seats on a frosty January morning are not.
Jaecoo's published spec sheet includes a panoramic-view camera system and electrically adjustable seats, plus heated and ventilated front seats on the petrol Luxury trim. Equipment varies by version, so do check the exact spec before you fall in love.
Features like these give buyers something real to weigh up, although a long kit list doesn't make a good car.
What counts is how well it all works. Are the menus simple? Is the camera genuinely useful? Can you adjust the air con without taking your eyes off the road for too long?
That's what a test drive is for.

The warranty could make an unfamiliar name less daunting
Buying from a newer brand means stepping into the unknown. You probably don’t know another owner and you almost certainly don’t have a trusted local specialist to turn to.
That's where a seven-year/100,000-mile manufacturer warranty earns its keep.
It's Jaecoo's standard vehicle cover (subject to terms and conditions), and it's a lot more solid than a promise in an advert and for anyone who likes the car but feels wary of the badge, it's a powerful reassurance.
Now, a warranty isn't a guarantee nothing will go wrong so it’s important to check what it covers, what servicing it requires and where you'd actually take the car if something needed fixing.
The question isn't "How long is the warranty?" It's "How easy would it be to get help?"
There's more than one kind of Jaecoo 7
The range spans petrol, full hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions - giving buyers three routes into the same car.
So, what’s the right one for you?
A plug-in hybrid makes sense if you can charge regularly and fancy doing some journeys on electric power without going fully electric, while a full hybrid never needs plugging in. And the petrol version keeps things straightforward.
Your routine should make the call; think about your typical journeys, your access to charging and the price of the version you're eyeing up.
The deal may matter more than the badge
For anyone shopping around, it all comes down to what you get for your money - and that means putting the Jaecoo's actual offer side by side with its rivals on equipment, warranty, practicality and total cost.
If the package stacks up, the unfamiliar badge of the Jaecoo quickly stops feeling like a dealbreaker.
That's a plausible explanation for its success, not something the sales figures prove.
To know for sure, you'd need to ask owners what else they looked at and what won them over.

Does being a best-seller mean you should buy one?
No. It means lots of people are buying one but it doesn't mean it's right for you.
September's result makes the Jaecoo 7 worth a proper look, and its styling, equipment, powertrain choices and warranty give you plenty of reasons to dig deeper.
But the final checks are all the same - sit in it, drive it, check the space. Get an insurance quote. And understand the running costs.
Never write off a car just because you don't know the name… but don't buy one simply because everyone else seems to be.
