Common questions about convertible cars
The main advantage of a convertible car is that driving with the roof down is great fun. Feeling the wind in your hair and the sun on your face while driving turns it into a very different experience. When you’re not in the mood you can simply raise the roof, and this is generally as simple as pushing a button while the car moves it electrically.
The smallest convertibles available tend to be either two-seat sports cars such as the Mazda MX-5 or open-top versions of compact small cars such as the Mini Convertible and Fiat 500C.
Coupe and convertible cars both have a more emotional appeal than most hatchback or saloon cars. Convertibles usually cost slightly more to buy and run than an equivalent coupe due to their complex roof mechanisms and extra weight, but when it comes to driving fun there’s little to beat the feeling of the wind in your hair and the sun on your face that you get with a convertible.
