Thinking of getting a Nissan Juke?

The style of the car

The Juke looks like no other car on the road. It has the height of an SUV with the sloping roof of a coupe, which creates a sporty profile. The latest version (sold new from 2019) looks similar to the previous car but it’s slightly larger and has a more angular design.

How it drives

The Juke is fun to drive, feeling responsive and well balanced, and you get a great view out thanks to its high ride height. The view behind isn’t great but most models have parking sensors that aid manoeuvring and some models have reversing cameras, too. The older Juke is available with a wide range of petrol and diesel engines, and automatic and four-wheel drive models are available. The latest car has a petrol engine, with a manual or automatic gearbox. All of the engines give decent acceleration.

The interior

The Juke is a compact SUV with five doors and five seats that’s about the same size as the Mazda CX-3 and Citroen C3 Aircross. The older car has good space in the front seats, but the back seats can feel a bit cramped. The back windows are quite small too, so it’s not as family-friendly as some rivals. The latest version is larger and has more space in the back, with enough for two adults to be comfortable. It has a bigger boot, too, holding four medium suitcases to the older car’s three. Both older and newer Jukes have good-looking, user-friendly dashboards and come well equipped. All models have air con and smartphone connectivity; top models have heated leather seats and sat nav.

Running costs and reliability

The petrol engines in the older Juke give a fuel economy of between 34mpg to 49mpg, according to official figures. Diesel engines can give as much as 70mpg. Only one petrol engine is available in the latest version, which gives 46mpg (automatic) to 48mpg (manual). Road tax and insurance costs are low. Safety organisation Euro NCAP gave both versions of the Juke a maximum five-star safety rating.

How it compares with similar cars

The Juke has many rivals, including the Mazda CX-3, Seat Arona and Vauxhall Crossland. While the previous model isn’t as practical as many similar cars, every Juke is fun to drive, well equipped and has a strong sense of style.
