Thinking of getting an Audi Q2?

The style of the car

The five-door Audi Q2 is a distinctive-looking small SUV with an upmarket feel. It’s available in a wide range of trims and some versions have contrasting exterior colour panels between the rear doors and boot. It gives you good interior space for such a compact car, plus a wide, well-shaped bootlid for easy loading.

How it drives

The Q2 is compact (shorter than a Volkswagen Golf) but feels rock-solid on the road, which makes long journeys more relaxing than in some similar cars. It also feels light and responsive, and there’s a good view from the driver’s seat, so it’s a doddle to nip around town and park. It doesn’t give quite as smooth a ride as other small SUVs, but it’s never uncomfortable. There’s a wide range of petrol and diesel engines to choose from, all of which give you enough performance for confident motorway driving. Automatic gearboxes and four-wheel drive are available.

The interior

The Q2 is a small SUV with five doors and five seats that’s about the same size as the Mini Countryman and Nissan Juke. There’s a lot of space in the front seats and children are well accommodated in the back seats. Adults should be fine on shorter journeys. The boot has space for a couple of large suitcases although the boot on four-wheel drive models is smaller. The interior looks good and has a premium feel, too. All models have air con and smartphone connectivity, while some include high-tech features such as a large driver’s display showing detailed sat nav maps.

Running costs and reliability

The Q2 is competitively priced and, depending on the model, can give you better value for money than its premium rivals. Fuel economy is excellent, with official average mpg for petrol models in the mid-40s mpg and more than 50mpg for diesel versions. Low emissions mean low road tax, while insurance premiums are similar to those of the Q2’s rivals. Advanced safety kit, including autonomous emergency braking, helped the Audi achieve a five-star Euro NCAP safety rating.

How it compares with similar cars

The Q2 is Audi’s second-smallest SUV – bigger than the Audi A1 Citycarver but smaller than the more expensive Audi Q3. Similar in size to key rivals such as the BMW X2 and Mazda CX-3, the Q2 isn’t as spacious as some but it’s especially good to drive and very well equipped.
