Cazoo adds official MOT and mileage history to its car listings
  • Listings on the Cazoo website now show the date, result and recorded mileage of each MOT test from official DVSA records, plus a mileage chart in most cases
  • Where readings don’t follow the expected pattern, buyers are prompted to ask the dealer and check the official record on GOV.UK
  • The feature launched alongside Cazoo’s campaign to make deliberate mileage alteration, known as clocking, a specific criminal offence

Used-car marketplace Cazoo has added MOT history to its website listings, giving buyers official information about a car’s past before they contact the dealer.

Where available, each listing shows the date, result and recorded mileage of every MOT test, taken from official DVSA records. In most cases, a mileage chart shows how the car’s recorded mileage has changed over time.

Where the readings do not follow the expected pattern, buyers are prompted to ask the dealer and to check the official record on GOV.UK. The feature does not determine whether a vehicle has been clocked, as inconsistent readings can also result from, for example, recording errors or a replaced odometer.

Clocking is the practice of deliberately reducing a vehicle’s recorded mileage to make it appear less used. In research of 310 UK used-car dealers carried out for Cazoo in September 2026, six in ten (60%) said they believe clocking has increased in the UK over the past five years and 81% described it as a serious issue for the industry.

Dealers estimate that, on average, 14% of second-hand cars they come across may have had their mileage deliberately altered. More than two thirds (68%) believe altering the mileage of a modern car is easy with the right equipment, technology or software.

MOT history is already one of the main checks dealers use with more than three quarters (77%) saying they check it to help verify a car’s mileage before selling it. Showing it on the listing puts the same information in front of buyers.

The feature forms part of Cazoo’s Honestly, Finally commitment to greater transparency in the used-car market. Alongside it, Cazoo is calling on the Government to make deliberate vehicle mileage alteration a specific criminal offence, a proposal backed by the Vehicle Safe Trading Advisory Group (VSTAG) and supported by 90% of dealers surveyed.

Lucy Tugby, Chief Marketing Officer at Cazoo, said: “Our ‘Honestly, Finally’ commitment is about working in partnership with dealers to bring greater transparency to the market. Giving customers clearer information before they enquire can help generate better-informed leads and make conversations at the dealership smoother. Tackling clocking is part of putting that commitment into practice.”
