A wonderful Adventure. A few years ago I owned a Vauxhall Vivaro with a rock n roll bed in it. I could not stand up, it drove me mad. I spent 3 months researching my next van.I was obsessing over long wheel base Mercedes vans, but most second hand ones had high mileage on the clocks. I found BaseVan, Rupert sent me a link to a video on a Fiat ex Ambulance. I was immediately curious, slightly bewildered but fascinated to see one. It has been almost 1 yr now that I have been living in one. I spent 2 months filming around the Outer Hebrides at the start of this year.My ambulance has been brilliant. Lots of headspace to stand up, control panel with varying light options, air-con, Eberspacher d2 heater, self raising suspension .....even a monitor in the cab which gives you a "Gods eye aerial view" when parking. I absolutely love it. The brilliance of these vehicles is the versatility, adaptability, and practicalness of them.I love that I can swing my barn doors all the way around to the outside where magnets hold them in place so I can have breakfast overlooking the ocean. The side door is wide also, making the back airy and light if need be.They are a cleverly designed width so can fit inside a standard car park space and not so long that you will stick out and block others. A kind of genius really. For me personally it has been, and continues to be a very happy, soulful experience in my Man-bulance! BaseVan is run by two brothers Rupert, and Rob. I have found them to be very affable, helpful, and guiding toward a vehicle which best suits you. A very genuine, content experience. I have attached some of my favourite photos with my vehicle whilst filming on the Isle of Lewis and Harris winter 2025.
I had my first appointment with Rupert at Basevan today - the start of my van build, something that is totally new to me. I found Rupert to be welcoming and knowledgable, supportive of my ideas but also great input of ideas that made total sense. I felt absolutely no pressure at all from him. He had all the time in the world to listen and help me start to form a vision and is genuinely passionate about what he does. I came away feeling enthused, absolutely in safe hands, full of ideas and with a vision. Thanks Rupert\u2026see you soon. I\u2019ll update with pics here as the build progresses.
About 15 months ago I bought a Renault Master from BaseVans, and it has honestly been one of the best decisions I have made. The van soon became my home and I have been living in it since April after converting it myself. Before finding BaseVans I had spent nearly two years looking at vans on Facebook Marketplace and eBay but often felt unsure about the sellers. A friend recommended BaseVans and I am really glad they did. I originally went to view a VW Crafter, but Robbie showed me a line of Renault Masters that were very clean, low mileage and clearly well looked after. Mine was an ex council van and drove great on the test drive. Rupert and Robbie were really helpful and knowledgeable and made the whole process feel relaxed and trustworthy. Since buying the van they have also been great with aftercare. They helped me when I had a battery issue months later and also fitted a reversing camera and a split charge relay for my leisure battery. I have also been back for my MOT and service which was a pleasant experience. I would highly recommend BaseVans to anyone looking for a good base van to convert.
The guys at Base vans are outstanding. I brought my van from them just over a year ago, I paid a little more then I wanted too but what a van I got. The choice they have is incredible, no need to go around all different garages or scroll through the internet they have everything. After my first travelling season I developed a slight fault which they where happy to fix. Should I need another van they would be my first port of call.
If you're thinking of converting a decommissioned ambulance or service van to a campervan, this is the only place you need to look. Always a great selection of base vehicles to chose from. Robbie, Rupert and the mechanical staff are very helpful with advice in choosing the best van for your project. They also offer additional services such as stripping out of fixtures and fittings, adding Lithium batteries and other technical services that will save you the legwork leaving you to concentrate on your dream conversion. We are very happy with our purchase and would highly recommend Basevan to anyone.
We have just purchased our second vehicle from Basevan. Communication was great, we were unable to view directly,so the guys made two videos for us . They also provide a delivery service for a reasonable cost ,if you are unable to collect your vehicle. If we ever need another van we would definitely use them again. We can highly recommend them.
