Thinking of buying a used Suzuki Swift?
The style of the car
The five-door Suzuki Swift is a stylish and well-built supermini that packs in a surprising amount of space. Hidden handles for the back doors create a sporty look without sacrificing practicality. Most models get alloy wheels, LED daytime running lights and Sport versions have a lower ride height and subtle body kit.
How it drives
With agile handling and precise steering, the Swift is great fun to drive. The efficient engines provide nippy performance yet are also well suited for longer journeys. Sport models have stiffer suspension for less lean in corners, but are still comfortable. Compact dimensions and a light manual gearbox make the Swift easy to drive and park in town. Four-wheel drive versions give extra control in slippery conditions and are good for towing small trailers.
The interior
It’s a small car, but the five-door Swift offers surprising space and comfort. There’s decent head and legroom in the back with space for two adults or three children, plus lots of handy storage compartments and cup holders. The boot is slightly smaller than many rivals, but with 264 litres you can fit in two medium-sized suitcases or a week’s worth of shopping. Folding the back seats flat allows you to load larger items.
The Swift is very well equipped, with entry-level SZ3 trim featuring air con, Bluetooth and a DAB radio. SZ-T adds intuitive touchscreen infotainment with Apple CarPlay, while the Attitude also has a subtle bodykit. Top of the range SZ5 and Sport models have climate control and keyless entry.
Running costs and reliability
The Swift is a brilliant value choice with attractive prices and impressively low running costs. Frugal engines deliver excellent fuel economy of up to 55.4mpg, while tax bills are low. Insurance premiums are affordable and servicing costs are similar to rivals. Suzuki has a great reputation for reliability and the car maker finished second in the JD Power dependability survey. The Swift is a safe car with advanced driver aids including electronic stability control, while cars fitted with the Safety Pack get autonomous emergency braking. It was given a four star Euro NCAP score.
How it compares with similar cars
The Swift is Suzuki’s supermini model and is larger and better equipped than the Suzuki Celerio city car, but smaller than the Baleno family hatchback. It’s more cost effective to run than the Ford Fiesta and more fun to drive than the Vauxhall Corsa.
