The Porsche Cayenne is available with plug-in-hybrid power. The latest Cayenne Turbo S E-Hybrid, sold since 2019, is actually the most powerful model of Cayenne – its engine has a massive 670bhp. It’s extremely fast but very fuel efficient. According to official figures, it can give you an average fuel economy of up to 74mpg if you keep the battery charged up, and it has a zero-emission, electric-only range of up to 22 miles. Crucially, its low CO2 emissions of 86g/km means you’ll pay a low rate of Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax). The older Cayenne S E-Hybrid, sold from 2014 to 2017, isn’t as powerful but gives similar fuel economy, CO2 emissions and electric range.

Porsche SUV buying guide
If you want a spacious, luxurious SUV that drives like a sports car, then a Porsche SUV could be ideal. The German company, famous for its sporty machines, has two Porsche SUV models to choose from – the Macan and the Cayenne. Both are practical enough for family life, with quiet and comfortable interiors that are packed with features.
Which used Porsche SUV cars are available?
Porsche only makes two SUVs, but they cover a broad range of needs so there may be one that suits you.
Porsche Macan – The smaller of Porsche’s SUVs is about the same size as the Mercedes-Benz GLC and the Jaguar F-Pace. You can choose from petrol or diesel engines and all models come with lots of features as standard. Four adults fit comfortably inside and the boot is a good size, if not quite the biggest you’ll find in this type of car. Every Macan model can reasonably be called a high-performance car, but the GTS and Turbo are seriously fast. They’re surprisingly fuel-efficient, too.
Porsche Cayenne – The larger of the Porsche SUVs is similar in size to the BMW X5 and the Range Rover Sport. There’s a range of models available with a choice of petrol, diesel or plug-in-hybrid power. There’s also a Coupe version with a more steeply sloped back end that gives an extra-sportier look. Being the bigger car, the Cayenne is more family-friendly than the Macan, and kids will love the luxurious, tech-filled interior.
Common questions about Porsche SUVs
As of Spring 2022, the fastest Porsche SUV was the Cayenne GT. Its hugely powerful engine has 631bhp, and it’s lighter than other Cayenne models because some of the bodywork is made from high-tech carbon-fibre. It has four seats rather than five, too. The result of all that weight-saving is that it can sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds and reach a top speed of 186mph.
The fastest Macan available is the GTS which has 433bhp, can do 0-62mph in 4.4 seconds and has a top speed of 169mph.
Porsche SUVs aren’t able to take you as far off the beaten track as a Land Rover, but they’re still amazingly capable off-road for such sporty cars. All models of Macan and Cayenne have four-wheel drive and decent ground clearance, so dirt trails, rocky paths and muddy lanes present few problems. Of the two, the Cayenne is the more capable because it sits further off the ground.
The Macan and Cayenne are Porsche’s most popular cars, but the brand remains most famous for its sports cars, particularly the iconic 911. Porsche also makes other sports cars – the 718 Cayman coupe and 718 Boxster convertible. There’s also the Panamera luxury car range and the electric Taycan.
