I purchased a car from ELM Motors which turned out to be faulty. When I raised concerns, I was treated poorly throughout the process and repeatedly dismissed. I was told at every stage that I would be “laughed out of court” if I took the matter further. Despite this, I pursued the issue through the courts and won my case. I am leaving this review because I now know of multiple people, including myself, who have experienced similar issues after buying vehicles here. My advice to anyone considering purchasing from ELM Motors would be to proceed with extreme caution and ensure you fully understand your consumer rights. This review is based on my personal experience and the outcome was legally upheld.

We recently called in to Elm Motors just to have a look around for a car and couldn't believe our luck to find our perfect car. Having bought many cars over several years it was refreshingly pleasant to meet Paul who looked after us so well more than just professionally excellent. Nothing was too much trouble everything we asked for was done immediately and efficiently. Even to the point of delivering our cars to us. We are so impressed by the high quality service and expertise of the Team at Elm Motors 2 weeks later we returned and bought our 2nd car. Again Paul looked after us just the same as before. We really appreciate everything that has been done for us and want to say Thank You to you all at Elm Motors by far the Best in the West and highly recommended.

We purchased a Vauxhall Zaria back in may and at the time it was the ideal car for our family. The guys were friendly and reassuring that everything was ok and that the warranty was there incase any issues would arise and could be extended if we wanted to. Picked up the car with a new mot and full service. Unfortunately within 4 days we noticed a strange noise so got in touch with elm to see where we could get it looked at. They sent us to the garage they use for their service and mot work to be looked at. The day we were taking it down we then found the boot was leaking. Elm also asked for the garage to look at this to. Over a five month period between elm and the garage they use we were told that the car needed a fuel line clean so return when the tank is empty but the car was safe to use. On return they told us the cam belt was going and we shouldn’t be using the car. (Even though they told us that everything was fine) left the car with them to be repaired. A week later I went to Collect the car to be told that the high pressure fuel pump was the issue and that it was replaced and so was the cam belt. The water leak was due to a boot window seal.so they filled the rear window with silicone. The car still had the noise and the leak. Went to show elm what they had done and so they could hear the noise. The car went back to the garage and they said that they couldn’t hear any noise and to take it away to be diagnosed and they would do the work. Elm then sent the car to someone else to look at. Again waited a couple of weeks and had to chase up to find out what was going on. Picked up the car again and told that the car belt was put on too tight and the high pressure fuel pump that was replaced was faulty. Also the aerial was the issue for the leak so again filled with silicone. Took the car away and then couldn’t get it started first time as it wouldn’t fire up. Also still had the water leak. The car went back to have the issue fixed and we could then start it but back with the original noise. Elm said they would lend us a car and then they would keep our car until the issue was resolved. 3 weeks later told the car was ready to collect. Work done was change the rocket cover, clean all air lines and egr valve and fix water leak by filling the boot break light with silicone and the noise was a common fault with this particular engine and a ex Vauxhall specialist had look at it and said that nothing could be done about it. We expressed that the works done seemed to be of poor quality and why was silicone used everywhere. Took the car away with the reassurance that everything was fine. Drove home to have engine service light come on and loss of power. Again informed Elm and ask to take it back so they could plug it in and see what fault was coming up. One was low boost pressure and another was crank shaft issue. The crankshaft fault was deleted by Elm and told that the fault wasn’t their but to take the car back to the garage to get the boost looked at. Booked the car in at the garage for a few days later but within that time the crankshaft fault reappeared. By this point we had lost all faith in Elm and the garage they use to actually fix the car without causing more faults and damage to it. Spoke with trading standards and citizen advice about our options which unfortunately weren’t great. We returned the car as it was no longer fit for purpose. Out of five months of owning the car we had it for about three months. Elm took the car back minus the mileage we had out on it. We took a big hit and lost half of what we paid for it. While we appreciated Elm tried to get the car roadworthy and lending us a hire car while this was going on. letting the garage they use do substandard work and causing more problems than they fixed is not acceptable. We appreciate that cars do go wrong but in this case felt that we were let down by Elm.

We purchased a ford Mondeo in February 2025 for \xa35500 Elm motor company had the car MOT and seven months later it's scrap. Must have been a bent mot as it's so rotten. Both subframes gone, silks gone, brake pipes gone, exhaust dropped off. These people really are trouble and should be avoided at all cost. They also send people out for test drives in vehicles that have no MOT and are I. A dangerous condition. Best avoided

I bought a car with the 1.2 PureTech engine, but was not made aware of the wet belt issue this car came with. Also the garage they use for their servicing and work is another one to look more closely at, as we took our car there for an MOT and service (came free with the sale of the vehicle), just to find our cv boot suddenly had a very clean cut through it and the service was not completed (our mechanic checked filters and oil, all old). Just over a year of owning this vehicle and we had to replace the clutch, wet belt, cv boots, discs, tyres!!

Bought a 2015 Mazda 6 2.2D from them back in January. Firstly, the warranty that came with it had the mileage entered as over 5,000 miles below the actual mileage (which they sorted after I told them about it). After a month, it broke down due to mechanical failure which means it was clearly an underlying issue from when it was bought. I was given a decent courtesy car while it was being repaired but I didn't get my car back until May! It is now August and the car has a mechanical fault again so I am currently pursuing my right to reject the car for a partial refund (since it is technically over 6 months since I bought the vehicle even though it has been getting repaired for about 2 months) and will update this review following their response. August 2025 update: After delaying and delaying with excuses or just ignoring my contact with them, they have told me that the fault just "form part of any ongoing costs to run a car". When I tried to email a reply, they have blocked my emails.
