Engines and transmissions

The UK's Pathfinder models received a petrol and diesel engine, paired to a manual or an automatic gearbox and standard four-wheel drive.

Petrol

265bhp 4.0-litre V6 engine hit 60mph in 8.6 seconds but had a poor fuel economy of just 20mpg.

Diesel

2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder generates 168bhp, with output increased to 187bhp after a 2010 update, providing a 0-60mph time of 10.6 seconds.
Later models had a 228bhp V6 engine.
Most efficient models were capable of around 33mpg.

Practicality

The Pathfinder isn't cheap to run owing to its large size, but it does offer room for up to seven people, has strong towing ability, and benefits from a well-equipped cabin.

Interior space

High driving position offers a superior view of the road.
All except the base model have seven seats as standard.
Split/folding seats allow for a customised cabin space.
Taller adults can fit in the rear two rows.

Boot space

190-litre boot with all of the seats in position.
Folding the third row increases the space to 515 litres.
Using just the two front seats offers 2,091 litres of space.
Split-rear tailgate has glass that opens independently so that bags can be dropped in quickly.

Safety

2006 Euro NCAP rating gave adult occupant four stars.
Child occupant rating was three stars and pedestrian was two.
Standard safety kit includes airbags (driver, passenger, curtain and side), ABS, electronic stability programme, traction control and three-point seatbelts.

Technology

Standard equipment includes Bluetooth, MPG and AUX input.
Available 7.0-inch touchscreen was offered on later models.
Satnav was available with the touchscreen display.
