Used Toyota hybrid cars

Toyota has been making hybrid cars for longer than most brands and it offers a range to suit a variety of needs and budgets. Most Toyota hybrid models are ‘self-charging’ so you don’t need to plug them in and charge them. Each one gives you low running costs and is likely to be exceptionally reliable.

There’s a broad range of Toyota hybrids available, from the compact Yaris hatchback to family cars such as the Prius and Corolla, and SUVs such as the C-HR and RAV4. Most are conventional ‘self-charging’ hybrids that you don’t need to plug in to recharge their batteries, but Toyota also offers the Prius as a plug-in hybrid model that you can charge from the mains or from a home or public charger.

The majority of Toyota hybrids are conventional hybrids that use a combination of a petrol engine and electric motor. The motor can drive the car on pure electric power for very short distances but it’s mainly used to help the petrol engine. Its battery is charged using energy recovered by braking so there’s no need to plug in and charge it yourself.

Newer Prius and RAV4 cars are available as plug-in hybrid models, which have a more powerful electric motor and batteries you can recharge from the mains or from a home or public charger.

Depending on what type of driving you do, a Toyota hybrid could prove extremely cost-efficient. Petrol-electric hybrids are more fuel-efficient than a pure petrol car, especially if most of your driving is at low speed and in urban areas. Toyotas also have an excellent reputation for reliability, so should provide you with trouble-free motoring and reasonable maintenance costs, too.
