The RX 450h is a large family SUV that’s both stylish and luxurious. It’s a big car with a high ride height, so it really stands out on the road. All models have distinctive bodywork, chrome trim and alloy wheels.

How it drives

The quiet and comfortable RX 450h is one of the most relaxing cars you can buy. Soft suspension and low noise levels make it great for long journeys on the motorway, and it’s easy to drive in town thanks to its light steering and a smooth automatic gearbox. The RX 450h’s standard four-wheel drive also provides greater control in slippery conditions. The petrol-electric hybrid engines are smooth and responsive, plus they can drive in zero-emission electric mode for short distances.

The interior

Comfort has always been a priority at Lexus and the RX 450h is a great example of this, with lots of leg and headroom for passengers in the reclining back seats. The Lexus is a five door car with five seats, though there’s also a larger RX L model with seven seats. The Lexus’ boot is a little smaller than rivals, but there’s still room for three large suitcases. All RX 450h models are well equipped, with even entry-level SE models having climate control, leather trim and sat nav. Luxury trim adds a larger infotainment screen and wireless phone charging, while Sport models have specially designed seats and a unique dashboard. F Sport cars feature sports seats while the top-of-the-range Premier adds a head up display that projects speed and sat-nav information onto the windscreen and into your line of sight.

For such a large and luxurious SUV, the Lexus represents excellent value. It undercuts premium rivals on price, while the hybrid engines are efficient and the tax bills low. Prepaid servicing plans make maintenance affordable and insurance costs are competitive. Lexus models are famously reliable and the car maker has finished top of the JD Power dependability study seven years in a row. Thanks to its advanced driver safety aids, the RX 450h was awarded five stars by Euro NCAP.
