After its unveiling in 2021, the Kia EV6 quickly became a top contender in the electric car segment thanks to its futuristic design, impressive all-electric range and top level of technology. Built on a dedicated EV platform, the EV6 is well-suited to various lifestyles, proving to be a popular choice amongst buyers in the used market.
The Kia EV6 comes with an electric powertrain only, ensuring it delivers only the cleanest means of driving currently available.
In standard form, the EV6 is available with a 77.4kWh battery pack that's available in two configurations. Entry-level examples come with a rear-wheel drive powertrain that offers 226bhp and a battery range of up to 328 miles from a single charge, while higher spec models offer an enhanced all-wheel drive system that's paired with a sharper 321bhp powertrain.
The flagship of the range is the EV6 GT which puts more of a focus on performance than its regular counterparts, offering a staggering 577bhp and a 0 to 62mph time of just 3.5 seconds. This level of performance comes with the caveat of reduced battery range though, so bear that in mind if you regularly travel long distances.
As an electric-only vehicle, all EV6 examples come with an automatic gearbox.
Despite its sleek looks, the Kia EV6 proves to be a fairly practical car, coming with a range of useful touches to ensure it meets the requirements of day-to-day life. For example, a ski hatch proves handy when loading longer items, while plenty of storage compartments ensure there's enough space for your usual bits and pieces.
While it's not the most cavernous in terms of boot space (you'll want something like the Tesla Model Y for that), all EV6 models offer a respectable 490-litre space that can handle its fair share of luggage. You can also drop the rear seats using a 60:40 split configuration if you need additional space or opt for a rear-wheel drive example as they offer space in the front storage compartment, too.
With plenty of head and legroom in the car's cabin, Kia has ensured there's little for occupants to complain about, and with a braked towing capacity of 1,600kg, those that regularly pull trailers or caravans haven't been forgotten either.
Equipped with a suite of advanced safety systems, it came as no surprise when the Kia EV6 earned a full five-star rating during its Euro NCAP safety test in 2022.
The likes of highway driving and forward collision avoidance assist come as standard on all models, while additional technologies such as blind spot assist and remote smart park are available on higher spec examples.
There's even a head-up display that feeds information to the driver in a way that allows them to keep their focus on the road, while the driver attention warning system actively recommends stopping for breaks when it detects drowsiness or loss of attention.
As one of the leading vehicles in its segment, you'll find a plethora of technology on used Kia EV6 examples to keep you entertained and comfortable.
Entry-level models offer you plenty of equipment, with heated seats, LED headlights and satellite navigation being just a few examples of its standard features. Move up the range to a 'GT-Line' or 'GT-Line S' model and you'll enjoy the likes of premium relaxation seats and a wireless mobile charging pad, while the range-topping 'GT' implements a variety of performance-oriented features to enhance the level of dynamism.
All in all, there are very few competitors that can compete with the EV6 when it comes to onboard technology. With such an array of tech on offer, be sure to double-check any used cars you consider and ensure it has everything you want.
The time it takes to recharge your Kia EV6 will depend on the type and speed of the charger you use. When charging at an ultra-fast 150kW public charging station, you can replenish your battery from 20% to 80% in as little as 20 minutes. Home charging will typically take longer and is best done overnight - a dedicated 7kW wallbox will take your battery from empty to full in approximately 11 hours.
How much it costs to charge a Kia EV6 will depend on the type of electric charger or provider you use. Charging the car from home will be the most cost-effective option, as you're generally charged better rates than those found at public charging stations. If you do need to charge on the go, then you'll have access to an extensive charging network that can be found through the vehicle's infotainment system or a variety of smartphone apps. Recharging an EV6 both at home and in public often works out to be significantly less than the costs of refuelling a petrol or diesel equivalent.
From new, Kia EV6 prices started from approximately £40,000. However, used examples can be found for significantly less, allowing you to get behind the wheel at a fraction of its original price.
While it doesn't quite have the premium badge of the likes of a Jaguar or Mercedes-Benz, the Kia EV6 offers a luxury feel and comes equipped with some of the most advanced technologies currently available.
Sporting sharp looks that go against the traditional SUV mould, many would assume that the EV6 is a regular car, but this isn't the case. With surprisingly large dimensions, the EV6 is an electric SUV that's well-suited to a wide variety of lifestyles.
