Used Hyundai cars buying guide

A used Hyundai car is a great option if you’re after something that offers excellent value for money. Used Hyundai models range from small but practical five-door hatchbacks to large, family-friendly SUVs, along with a choice of petrol, diesel, hybrid or pure-electric power.

All Hyundai cars are covered by a five-year unlimited mileage warranty from new, which is transferable to future owners and is valid as long as the car has been maintained according to Hyundai’s guidelines and schedule.

Which used Hyundai cars are for sale?

There’s a wide range of used Hyundai cars available, including hatchbacks and SUVs in a variety of sizes.

The i10 is Hyundai’s smallest car and one of the most affordable cars you can buy. The i20 is slightly larger, but if you need even more space check out the i30, which is available as a hatchback, estate or as a five-door coupe called i30 Fastback. The Ioniq hatchback (sold new between 2016 and 2022) is about the same size as the i30 and is available with hybrid, plug-in hybrid or pure-electric power.

The Hyundai SUV range stretches from the compact Bayon to the slightly larger Kona, the mid-size Tucson and all the way up to the large, seven-seat Santa Fe.

As well as several hybrid and plug-in hybrid models, Hyundai also offers a wide range of pure-electric cars, namely the Kona Electric, Ioniq Electric, Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Finally, Hyundai offers a range of sporty cars under its N sub-brand, including the i20 N and i30 N hot hatchbacks, plus the Ioniq 5 N, which is one of the first affordable performance cars with electric power.

Are there any hybrid or electric Hyundai models?

Hyundai has introduced a wider range of hybrid and electric models than many brands over recent years. Almost every Hyundai is available with a mild-hybrid technology, while the Ioniq, Kona, Tucson and Santa Fe are all available as full hybrids, also known as ‘self-charging hybrids’. These are ideal if you’re after diesel-like fuel economy but you don’t want to plug in to recharge the battery pack.

The Ioniq, Santa Fe and Tucson are also available with plug-in hybrid power, while Hyundai’s pure-electric cars are the Ioniq Electric, Kona Electric, Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6.

Hyundai i10

The Hyundai i10 is a small, five-door hatchback that’s impressively comfortable for a car of this size. All versions are well-equipped and powered by fuel-efficient petrol engines. There’s even a sporty N Line version.

Hyundai i20

The Hyundai i20 is a five-door hatchback with a spacious and comfortable interior, plus lots of equipment included as standard. Running costs are low, but if you’re after something sporty, check out the i20 N hot hatchback.

Hyundai Kona

The Hyundai Kona is a compact SUV (some people might call it a crossover) with distinctive styling and the choice of  petrol, diesel, mild-hybrid, hybrid or pure-electric power. The original Kona went on sale in 2017 and an all-new model was introduced in 2023.

Hyundai Tucson

The Hyundai Tucson is one of the best-selling cars in the UK, with buyers appreciating its blend of practicality, space, affordability, low running costs and generous levels of equipment. The current version has been sold new since 2020, when it replaced a version introduced in 2015.

Hyundai Santa Fe

Hyundai’s largest SUV is arguably one of its best. Along with seven seats as standard, the Santa Fe has a big boot, an upmarket interior and the option of four-wheel drive. The version sold new from 2018 is about to be replaced by a 2024 version with bold styling and the newest technology.

Which Hyundai models are SUVs?

Hyundai’s SUVs from smallest to largest are the Bayon, Kona, Tucson and Santa Fe.

The Hyundai Bayon is about the same size as the i20 hatchback and shares many parts with it. It’s a rival for the Ford Puma, Seat Arona and Skoda Kamiq. The Kona is taller, longer and wider than the Bayon, so it’s perfect if your growing children are complaining about the amount of headroom and legroom.

Hyundai’s most popular SUV is the Tucson, a rival for the Kia Sportage, Nissan Qashqai and Ford Kuga. The current version has been sold new since 2021, when it replaced a version introduced in 2015.

Hyundai’s largest SUV is the Santa Fe, which comes with seven seats as standard, a roomy interior, a large boot and lots of features as standard.
