A used Vauxhall is a great choice if you’re looking for a car that’s excellent value and packed with up-to-date features.
Vauxhall is a British brand that has been making cars for more than 120 years and Vauxhall models are regularly among the best-selling cars in the UK. From the ever-popular Corsa hatchback to the family-friendly Grandland X SUV, every Vauxhall is competitively priced and comes with a good range of equipment.
Vauxhall cars are generally very cost-effective to run, with fuel-efficient petrol and diesel models, hybrids and pure-electric models to choose from.
You can choose from a wide variety of used Vauxhall cars for sale. The range of Vauxhall hatchbacks includes compact models such as the Adam, Corsa and Viva, the mid-size Astra and the large Insignia. If you’re looking for a Vauxhall estate car, you can choose from the Astra Sports Tourer or the Insignia Sports Tourer.
You’ll find lots of Vauxhall SUVs for sale – its compact SUV models are the Crossland/Crossland X and Mokka/Mokka X, while the Grandland/Grandland X is Vauxhall’s mid-size SUV.
If you need more space than Vauxhall’s SUVs can offer, the seven-seat Zafira Tourer MPV is a good option.
Plug-in hybrid versions of the Grandland/Grandland X are available and there are two pure-electric Vauxhall models – the Corsa-e and Mokka-e.
The Vauxhall Corsa is a compact hatchback that’s been one of the UK’s best-selling cars for many years. It’s good to drive and most models are well-equipped. The latest version, sold new from 2020, is available as an all-electric model called Corsa-e that has an official battery range of more than 200 miles.
The Vauxhall Mokka – also known as the Mokka X – is a small SUV that packs a lot of interior room and boot space into a compact shape. The latest version, sold new from 2020, is also available as an electric car called the Mokka-e.
The Astra is Vauxhall’s mid-size hatchback or estate model, both of which are great value and offer enough space for families. There are lots of engines and trim levels to choose from and some models promise fuel economy of more than 80mpg.
The Vauxhall Grandland – also known as the Grandland X – is a stylish mid-size SUV that’s a rival for cars such as the Nissan Qashqai. It’s a practical, well-equipped car that’s great for families, and you can buy a plug-in hybrid version that has the potential to give very low fuel costs.
The Vauxhall Insignia is a large family car available as a hatchback or as an estate model called Insignia Sports Tourer. It’s great for long journeys because it’s roomy and comfortable, packed with useful features and available with extremely fuel-efficient engines.
If you’re looking for a used Vauxhall SUV, you have essentially three models to choose from. In order from small to large, they are the Vauxhall Crossland, Vauxhall Mokka and Vauxhall Grandland.
The Vauxhall Crossland is a compact SUV that you could also describe as a crossover. It’s slightly lower than Vauxhall’s other SUVs and has an MPV-like shape that makes it surprisingly spacious inside. This model went on sale as the Crossland X in 2017 but was renamed Crossland in 2021 as part of a range of updates.
There are three versions of the Vauxhall Mokka on the used market – the original model went on sale in 2013 and was renamed Mokka X in 2016. An all-new Vauxhall Mokka (the ‘X’ was dropped) went on sale in 2021 – this version is also available as a pure-electric model called Mokka-e.
The Vauxhall Grandland is the brand’s mid-size SUV. It went on sale in 2017 as the Grandland X and was renamed Grandland in 2021 as part of a model update.

Vauxhall is a British company that began producing cars in 1903 and was acquired by the US carmaker General Motors in 1925. In 2017 Vauxhall was bought by the PSA Group, which makes Citroen and Peugeot cars. Aftera merger in 2021, Vauxhall became part of the Netherlands-based Stellantis Group, which owns 14 car brands including Alfa Romeo, Citroen, Fiat, Jeep, Maserati and Peugeot.
Vauxhall and the German car brand Opel were both bought by the American carmaker General Motors in the first half of the 20th Century. The two built different cars for many years, but to save costs Vauxhall and Opel models became increasingly similar until the only difference was the brand name. Opel and Vauxhall cars are identical apart from their name badges – Vauxhall is used only in the UK.
Vauxhall – like most car brands – produces its cars at factories in various places around the world. Vauxhall’s Ellesmere Port factory in England produces commercial electric vehicles, while its other models are built at various locations, including factories in France, Germany, Poland and Spain.
Ecotec is the brand name that Vauxhall used for its diesel engines for many years. It stands for Emissions Control Optimisation Technology, referring to features designed to lower carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. More recent diesel Vauxhalls are also labelled BlueInjection – referring to their use of AdBlue fluid to lower harmful nitrogen oxide emissions.
VXR stands for Vauxhall Racing. It’s the name Vauxhall gives to high-performance versions of its cars, which include the Corsa, Astra GTC and Insignia. They all have powerful engines and sporty styling details, and give you a driving experience that’s more fun than the standard Vauxhall cars. Models with VX-Line trims have similar styling, but use regular engines and cost less.
