Thinking of buying a used Range Rover?
The style of the car
The Range Rover is a king-sized premium SUV that’s stylish and beautifully built. Its eye-catching design creates one of the most recognisable cars on the road. The five-door layout and large boot lid make it a practical choice, while the high ride height means it’s better off-road than almost any rival.
How it drives
Soft suspension and low noise levels make the Range Rover one of the most comfortable cars you can buy. It’s a big car, but the high ride height gives you an excellent view out and the light controls make it easy to drive and park. The petrol, diesel and hybrid engines are quiet and powerful, while the smooth automatic gearbox takes the strain out of city driving. Standard four-wheel drive provides extra control on slippery surfaces and gives the Range Rover exceptional off-road ability. It also makes it an excellent tow car for anyone with a big trailer or a caravan, as it’s able to pull up to three and a half tons.
The interior
The five-door and five-seat Range Rover is spacious and comfortable. There’s lots of head and legroom in the back where the seats recline for extra comfort. The boot is huge and you can easily pack in four large suitcases. A split boot opening makes it easy to slide in large items, with the lower part folding down to create a totally flat load lip. All Range Rovers are luxuriously finished in quality materials and come lavishly equipped. The Vogue has leather trim, keyless entry and a large, intuitive touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The Vogue SE trim adds an electrically powered boot lid and heated and cooled seats, while the Autobiography features a panoramic glass roof and adaptive cruise control that automatically maintains a safe distance to the car in front. SVAutobiography has powered back seats and a surround view parking camera system.
The Range Rover is actually on our list of the top 10 most comfortable used cars. What makes a car comfortable? Our guide has all the answers.
Running costs and reliability
The Range Rover is competitively priced against rivals and comes very generously equipped. Given its large size, fuel efficiency is good and the diesel-electric hybrid is capable of 45mpg and can travel around a mile in zero-emission electric mode. Servicing costs are similar to rivals with good value pre-paid servicing packs. Beautifully built and very robust, the Range Rover promises to be durable and dependable. It’s also a very safe choice, with Euro NCAP awarding it the full five stars.
How it compares with similar cars
The Range Rover is Land Rover’s flagship model and is larger than the Range Rover Evoque and even more luxurious than the Range Rover Sport. It’s more comfortable and stylish than the Mercedes GLS and is better value than the Bentley Bentayga. The Range Rover has won numerous awards, and was named Luxury Car of the Year by Auto Express.
