The Ford Fiesta is among the very best small hatchbacks. It’s not the most practical car of this type, but it’s great value, feels fantastic to drive on any type of road and there is a huge range of models available, which means you should be able to find one to fit your needs and budget.
The current Ford Fiesta model has been sold new since 2017 and was updated in 2022 with new styling – most noticeably for the front grille and headlights – among other changes. The latest car also has a different interior with more modern tech. In both versions, you have a huge number of models to choose from, so you should be able to find a Fiesta that suits you.
There are three-door or five-door versions, petrol or diesel engines, and manual or automatic gearboxes. There’s also a wide range of trims to choose from – the sporty-looking ST-Line and upmarket Titanium are the most popular. There’s even a luxury model – the Vignale – as well as the SUV-like Active and the ST hot hatch.
The previous Fiesta model was sold new from 2008 to 2017 – it looks very similar to the current car and is also great to drive but, as you’d expect, it doesn’t offer some of the high-tech features you get with the latest model.
In many models of Fiesta, you’ll find features such as air con, cruise control, DAB radio, Bluetooth and electric windows. Some high-spec models have features such as sat nav, a digital drivers display in place of traditional dials, heated synthetic-leather seats and a sunroof. Many newer models also have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
If you’d like to know what features are in the Fiesta that interest you on the Cazoo website, open the listing page for that car, and scroll down to the features section.
Every Fiesta is really fuel efficient – even the high-performance ST model. All the petrol Fiestas can give you an average fuel economy of at least 40mpg, and even more than 60mpg in some cases, according to official figures. Diesel models can give at least 54mpg, up to as much as 88mpg. CO2 emissions are correspondingly low, so Vehicle Excise Duty (car tax) is very affordable, or even free. The Fiesta is also very cost-effective to buy and service.
There are many other small hatchbacks like the Fiesta including the Renault Clio, Peugeot 208 and Skoda Fabia. The Ford isn’t quite as spacious as the Renault or the Skoda, and some would say not as stylish as the Peugeot. But the Fiesta feels much better to drive than any of its rivals. It’s great value and there are so many different models that it’s very easy to find the one that’s right for you.
