Used Audi cars buying guide
Audi is a German car brand known for making stylish cars with a premium look and feel. You’ll find lots of used Audi cars for sale, from small hatchbacks such as the Audi A1 to large SUVs such as the Audi Q7 there’s something to suit a variety of needs, tastes and budgets.
Audi has a reputation for excellent quality and impressive technology, and offers a number of hybrid and pure-electric models that promise low carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Audis can be more expensive than cars from less premium brands, but they tend to be comparable in price to the company’s main rivals – BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
Which used Audi cars are for sale?
You’ll find a wide variety of used Audi cars for sale. Audi’s more compact models are the Audi A1 and Audi A3, which offer an upmarket alternative to cars such as the Ford Fiesta and Ford Focus or Volkswagen Polo and Volkswagen Golf.
The Audi A4 and A5 are mid-size models while the A6, A7 and A8 are large, high-spec models.
The Audi SUV range starts with the compact Audi Q2 and rises through the Q3, the electric Q4 E-tron, the Q5, Q7 and Q8. Lastly, Audi’s performance cars include the TT and R8 sports cars, as well as high-performance variants of other cars throughout the range, badged S and RS.
Are there any hybrid or electric Audi models?
You can choose from a number of Audi hybrid and electric cars. Pure-electric options are the Audi Q4 E-tron, Audi Q4 Sportback E-tron, E-Tron and E-tron Sportback (renamed Q8 E-tron and Q8 Sportback in 2022). There’s also the E-tron GT Quattro sports car.
You can buy plug-in hybrid versions of many Audis, including the A3 Sportback, A6, A7 Sportback, A8, Q3 and Q5.
What are the most popular Audi models?
Audi A1
The Audi A1 – Audi’s smallest model – is a compact hatchback that’s a rival for cars such as the Mini Hatch and Volkswagen Polo. It’s basically a scaled-down version of larger Audis, and that’s no bad thing at all.
Audi A3
The Audi A3 is a very popular mid-size model that has been popular for decades thanks to its premium interior, practicality and (relatively) low price. About the size of a Ford Focus, it’s available as a hatchback or a saloon and with a range of engine and trim options to suit different needs.
Audi A4
The Audi Q4 is a mid-size saloon or estate model – called the A4 Avant – that’s a tremendous all-rounder. Depending on the spec you have it in, it can be fuel-efficient, comfortable family transport, a surprisingly practical performance car or something in between. Good to drive, beautifully made inside and full of tech, it’s also very spacious for this type of car.
Audi Q3
The Audi Q3 is an SUV that gives you the premium look and features you associate with Audi’s larger SUVs in a fairly compact package. It’s available in standard or sleeker Sportback form, and is a close match for rival cars such as the BMW X1 or Volvo XC40.
Audi Q5
The Audi Q5 is a mid-size SUV similar in size to the BMW X3 and Mercedes-Benz GLC. It’s a brilliant all-rounder, available as an ultra-practical SUV or as the sleeker Q5 Sportback with its more sloping roofline.
Which Audi models are SUVs?
Audi names its SUVs starting with a Q and starting in size order with the small but stylish Q2. The Q3 and Q5 are well-established favourites on British roads, but a recent newcomer to the range is the all-electric Q4 E-tron. There’s no Q6 (yet), but there is a Q7, which is a large SUV with seven seats and all manner of tech included. The Q8 is essentially a sleeker version of the Q7 with a sloping roofline, and is available as a full-electric model called the Q8 E-tron (which was originally called simply the Audi E-Tron).
