SouthwellThe Classicwise Collection is a company formed by Sam Fretwell after he became unable to continue in his employment as a result of injuries sustained as the innocent party in a near fatal road accident in May 2012. Sam has grown up around classic cars and knows all about them as his father used to import rust-free European sports cars from California USA and also built up a successful Porsche 911 sales and service business in the 1990’s. Since leaving school in 2007 Sam worked for the family business Weonlymot.co.uk, initially on reception at the various branches, but then became one of the youngest people ever to become an authorised MOT tester, and then by the end of 2011 was promoted to Branch Development Manager. He had identified, equipped and just opened his first new weonlymot.co.uk branch in Grimsby and was on his way back from there to the Ollerton head office when he involved in the horrific accident. Calling upon his father’s experience in addition to that already amassed himself, Sam’s intention is to establish himself and his company in the classic car business offering initially classic car service and repair, alongside vehicle sales & brokerage. He hopes to be able to offer classic car storage and enclosed transportation as the business develops at Bypass Garage Epperstone. The Classicwise Collection are always interested in any classic vehicle from the early 1900’s to the 1990’s. The images to the right were taken in December 1997 the little chap is Sam. The early 1970s gave us some of the greatest homologation specials ever built, and few carry the presence or pedigree of the BMW 3.0 CSL. Lightweight panels, a revhungry straightsix and a competition record that cemented BMWs touring car dominance the CSL wasnt just built to compete, it was built to win. This 1973 example is one of just 500 factory righthand drive cars supplied to the UK. With only 1,039 CSLs produced in total, genuine UK RHD cars are firmly in bluechip territory. Confirmed by BMW UK as built in December 1972 and first registered in May 1973, it remains a true, original example, benefitting from the additional refinement UK buyers demanded at the time.Finished in its original Taiga Green (Code 072), the car was the subject of a comprehensive restoration completed in 2016 by the Bat cave (BMW E9 specialists), with significant investment in both body and mechanical work. The shell was refinished throughout, including the underside, and the car presents today exactly as a CSL should purposeful, sharp and unmistakably 1970s BMW Motorsport.Mechanically it has been sensibly upgraded with an Alpina inlet manifold, Jenvey throttle bodies and Emerald management, improving drivability and reliability while retaining the character of the original straightsix. Braking has been uprated, the exhaust is stainless, and the stance is completed by refurbished CSL alloys. Some original components accompany the car.Inside, the cabin remains largely original in appearance, with correct carpets, dash and trim, refurbished Scheel front seats and an Alpina steering wheel. It feels authentic, usable and properly sorted a car to drive, not just admire. The CSL remains one of the defining performance cars of its era. In Taiga Green, with the right specification and the right provenance, it is every inch the 1970s icon. A genuine UK example with restoration pedigree and subtle improvements, this is a serious opportunity for the discerning collector.Book a viewing today Our coffee pot is always hot..
