SouthwellThe Classicwise Collection is a company formed by Sam Fretwell after he became unable to continue in his employment as a result of injuries sustained as the innocent party in a near fatal road accident in May 2012. Sam has grown up around classic cars and knows all about them as his father used to import rust-free European sports cars from California USA and also built up a successful Porsche 911 sales and service business in the 1990’s. Since leaving school in 2007 Sam worked for the family business Weonlymot.co.uk, initially on reception at the various branches, but then became one of the youngest people ever to become an authorised MOT tester, and then by the end of 2011 was promoted to Branch Development Manager. He had identified, equipped and just opened his first new weonlymot.co.uk branch in Grimsby and was on his way back from there to the Ollerton head office when he involved in the horrific accident. Calling upon his father’s experience in addition to that already amassed himself, Sam’s intention is to establish himself and his company in the classic car business offering initially classic car service and repair, alongside vehicle sales & brokerage. He hopes to be able to offer classic car storage and enclosed transportation as the business develops at Bypass Garage Epperstone. The Classicwise Collection are always interested in any classic vehicle from the early 1900’s to the 1990’s. The images to the right were taken in December 1997 the little chap is Sam. A true 1990s icon, the Volkswagen Corrado VR6 Storm represents the ultimate evolution of Volkswagens muchloved coupe. Hailed by CAR Magazine as one of the 25 cars you must drive before you die, the VR6 Storm combined serious performance with subtle, understated styling and a level of build quality that has allowed the very best examples to age with remarkable grace.Powered by the charismatic 2.9litre narrowangle VR6 engine producing 188bhp and 181lb ft of torque, driving through a fivespeed manual gearbox, the Storm was capable of 060mph in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 145mph. More than outright figures, it is the torquerich delivery, mechanical feel and unmistakable sixcylinder soundtrack that define the car and continue to win over enthusiasts three decades later.Built as a limited runout model for the UK market, just 500 Storms were produced, split between Classic Green with Cream leather and Mystic Blue with Black leather. Each featured colourcoded grille detailing, discreet Storm badging, heated front seats and 15inch BBS Solitude alloy wheels. Today, the model enjoys genuine cult status, and this particular example is believed to be one of just 16 manual cars currently recorded with the DVLA, underlining its rarity.First registered in 1995, this car was in the hands of its original owner for approximately the first 62,000 miles and now shows just over 64,000 miles from new. In recent years the car has benefitted from significant investment, including a new clutch, new exhaust, a baremetal glassout respray and refurbished original alloys. The result is a Storm that presents exceptionally well while retaining the integrity and character that make these cars so appealing. The bodywork is sharp, the paintwork deep and consistent, and the interior remains beautifully preserved, reflecting both the low mileage and careful ownership.Lowmileage, manual VR6 Storms with documented history are increasingly hard to source, particularly examples that remain true to factory specification and have received the right mechanical and cosmetic attention. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most desirable modern classic Volkswagens a car that delivers genuine analogue driving pleasure and is firmly established as a collectors piece.Book a viewing today Our coffee pot is always hot!.
