Hammond Cars Great Yarmouth
Ormond Road, Great Yarmouth, NR30 1QB
The experience of Hammond car was really good and very helpful, it’s great that you can drive and Test drive the car and check it over without being chaperoned by which was nice, there was no pressure selling when trying to purchase the car which is nice as I don’t like to be push into buying anything, you make you own mind up . Jack at the Norwich branch was great and helped answer questions every step of the way to the final purchase, Jack was very truthful regarding an issues with the car which was only one. But this was resolved and repaired before collection, we did buy the 1 year warranty for peace of mind which I feel is worth it, I will return in 2 years to upgrade car. Thanks Jack see ya in a couple of years for the same type of service.
Sales staff that don't have much knowledge of the product they are selling, and a company that don't seem to care too much about what they're selling. 30 day warranty (most others at least 3 months), unless you wish to purchase a 12 month warranty for £600. They don't want to repair anything or make good anything. Didn't even valet the car before collection. They very much give the impression that all they care about are the numbers. Never had as bad an experience with a company than this. Purchased a car from their branch at Yarmouth about 9 years ago and that was a completely different experience.
If you decide to risk buying from Hammond Cars, PLEASE pay extra for the 12month warranty they offer - you will likely need it if your purchase is in as bad a state as the one I bought. The only reason this review is 2 stars and not 1 is because the warranty claims staff are EXCELLENT - particularly Lloyd who was fast to reply, helpful and reassuring throughout my many issues. I bought a 2019 Corsa from Hammond Cars Ipswich in June 2025. Thankfully I also paid for the 12month/12,000 mile warranty on top of the price of the car. Only 3 weeks later, the Master Cylinder failed to the point of needing a rescue by the RAC. I had only driven 474 miles since purchase. This issue took almost 3 weeks to resolve. Early December, I had only driven a further 438 miles and the engine started to overheat repeatedly, only minutes into suburban drives. The indicator cancellation was also no longer working. The car was taken into a garage on the 18th Dec and was there until mid-January. Upon investigation, the following issues were found to be needing repair/replacement: - Investigate vehicle overheating, fault confirmed. Found low coolant level, tested for hydrocarbons in coolant and found to be present. - When stripping engine found timing chain guide to be broken closest to exhaust manifold. - Replacement head gasket and timing chain kit required. - Pressure tested system and found outlet housing and water pump to be leaking, requiring replacement. - On removal of cylinder head cover found coil-pack on cylinder 1 to be leaking oil into combustion chamber (coil pack rubber seal failed – new pack required) - Indicator cancellation not working All of these issues were resolved thanks to the 12month warranty I purchased with the car, but I am incredibly disappointed and unhappy that I lost a total of about 6wks usage due to the poor condition the vehicle was sold to me in. I was paying insurance and tax on a car I was not able to drive and had I NOT bought the warranty, I would be thousands of pounds out of pocket. I emailed Hammond Ipswich customer service on the 12th January to ask someone to explain how this happened and offer some kind of compensation for the constant issues. I heard nothing in reply. Beware and if you can go elsewhere, I would strongly recommend it.
So many reasons to recommend Hammond Cars! So much choice, but expert and honest guidance to find the right car for me. Initially helped by Oscar, who was patient and thoughtful, I narrowed down the options thanks to his careful listening and clear explanations of his recommendations. I returned the next day ready to test drive my final choices. On this occasion, I was expertly helped by Stan who took me through AA reports, service and MOT histories to make my final selection. The purchase was a smooth process with no pressure at any point, but clear explanations and friendly, helpful advice. Thanks also to Ashley for the additional tips and information along the way. What started as a very intimidating experience for me, was handled patiently and knowledgeably by everyone I met at the Ipswich branch. I am completely confident and happy with my "new" car thanks to them!
Very happy with the car and Jack who sold it to me was helpful and not 'over pushy' HOWEVER - After viewing the car the previous day, I returned to purchase it to be told that the price had risen by £100! Having agreed to purchase I found this quite insulting and petty and was on the point of walking out. This decision was made not by Jack but Pete the regional manager who was there at the time. It was left to Jack to explain the reason which left him somewhat embarrassed. This is not the way to treat a potential customer and sale. Pete should have been more professional and at least had the decency to come over to talk to me in person. I was not impressed!
