The newest Taigo lineup includes two petrol variants, two manual (5 or 6-speed) or a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission and front-wheel drive.
Despite its smaller size, the Taigo is incredibly practical and accommodating, especially in the front seats.
Because of the demand for compact SUVs, Volkswagen released the Taigo on the T-Roc platform in 2021. With a sportier appearance and higher ground clearance, the Taigo appeals to a different market. While the Taigo is still in its first generation, VW continues to release updated styling and interior features that keep the lineup relevant and competitive in this ever-growing segment.
In earlier models, there was a 1.5 TSI motor rated for up to 147bhp, which tends to be the most popular engine option. Yet the 1.0 TSI engine is also popular because of its efficiency and lower cost to buy.
Drivers should look out for larger alloy wheels, which can add more style to the Taigo, along with available rear tinted glass. Drivers may also prefer the convenience of having keyless access to the locks and a starting system with SAFELOCK technology.
The Taigo is able to accommodate a family for daily driving. The outer rear seats are big enough for adults, and the boot size is comparable to the T-Roc.
As of now, Volkswagen hasn't made a hybrid variant of the Taigo. However, as many vehicles are switching to a hybrid powertrain, it is highly likely that Taigo SUVs will have them in the future.
With the newest Taigo lineup, there are three transmission options, one of which is a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic. Otherwise, the Taigo can be configured with a 5- or 6-speed manual gearbox.
Volkswagen only makes the Taigo with a front-wheel drive configuration. For most drivers, this is all that's needed, especially when the crossover is used for daily commuting or weekend getaways with the family.
