The style of the car

The Zafira Tourer is a good looking MPV that fits a spacious seven-seat layout into relatively compact dimensions. The doors and boot open wide providing easy access and make loading luggage less of a hassle. Big windows create a bright and airy interior and give you excellent all-round visibility.

How it drives

Soft suspension and low noise levels make the Zafira Tourer relaxing over long distances. The petrol and diesel engines are quiet and responsive. There’s a smooth manual gearbox or the automatic, which is a great choice if you spend a lot of time in town. On the road, the Vauxhall feels compact and easy to drive thanks to its light steering. A high driving position and great road visibility also make it simple to park. It’s a good car for towing, especially models with the powerful diesels.

The interior

The five-door, seven-seat Zafira Tourer is very spacious. Sliding back seats create lots of legroom, while a third row of seats for children folds quickly and easily out of the boot floor when it’s needed.

There are also lots of family-friendly storage compartments dotted around the interior. With the third row seats folded away the boot is huge and you’ll easily be able to pack three large suitcases and a pram in there. All Zafira Tourers are well-equipped, with entry-level Design models boasting air con and easy-to-use touchscreen infotainment with Bluetooth. With the Tech Line Nav trim you also get climate control and sat nav. The SRi trim features a subtle bodykit (the SRi Nav version also adds sat-nav). The luxurious Elite and Elite Nav have leather trim and heated seats.

Running costs and reliability

Attractive pricing and a high level of standard equipment makes the Zafira Tourer a great used buy. Running costs are affordable, thanks to fuel efficient petrol and diesel engines and low tax bills. Servicing costs are similar to rivals and there are lots of Vauxhall dealers to choose from. The Zafira Tourer has a fantastic reputation for reliability, finishing runner up in the MPV category of the JD Power dependability survey. Safety is just as impressive and it was awarded five stars by Euro NCAP.

How it compares with similar cars

The Zafira Tourer is Vauxhall’s mid-sized MPV and is bigger than the Vauxhall Meriva but smaller than the van-based Vivaro Life. It’s more comfortable than Ford’s C-Max and more fun to drive than the Citroen Grand C4 Spacetourer. The Zafira Tourer has plenty of accolades to its name, including What Car’s MPV Award.
