The Grandland has been sold new since 2021 when it replaced the Grandland X, sold new from 2017 to 2021. The Grandland is essentially a heavily revised version of the Grandland X, but you can easily tell the two apart by the front-end styling – the Grandland features Vauxhall’s latest brand look, with slim headlights separated by a black panel. Inside, there’s a new dashboard fitted with a pair of digital displays – one for the infotainment system and one for the driver in place of traditional dials.

You can pick from petrol, diesel or plug-in hybrid power. The petrol and diesel cars can get up to motorway speeds from a standstill swiftly enough but the plug-in hybrid feels nippier, especially when in zero-emission mode, thanks to the instant power of its electric motor. The petrol engine is available with a manual or automatic gearbox; the diesel and plug-in hybrid have automatic gearboxes as standard.

Grandland Design models have a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, two-zone climate control and cruise control among a long list of other standard features. GS Line models add sporty styling details like bigger wheels, plus built-in sat nav and a reversing camera. Top-of-the-range Ultimate models also have bright LED headlights, heated front seats, a wireless phone charging pad and a 360-degree parking camera system to make tight manoeuvres that much easier.

Diesels can give up to 55mpg, so may be a better bet if you make lots of long journeys.
