Thinking of buying a used Skoda Superb?
The style of the car
The Skoda Superb is a large family car that’s available in both practical hatchback and estate body styles. Well designed and with a high-quality finish, the Superb is a car that looks and feels like more expensive premium models. This is especially so with the Sportline models that come with bigger wheels and a sporty, yet subtle body kit.
How it drives
The Superb is an easy and enjoyable car to drive over all types of roads. Low noise levels and soft suspension deliver excellent comfort and the Skoda is especially relaxing on long journeys. There’s a range of responsive and efficient petrol and diesel engines, each with a choice of smooth manual or automatic gearbox. It’s a large car, but excellent visibility and light steering make it easy to drive and park in town. The option of four-wheel drive makes the Superb an excellent choice for towing.

The interior
The five-door and five-seat Superb is a large car that has vast amounts of interior space, particularly for those sitting in the back. The boot is huge and is easily capable of swallowing four large suitcases. There’s even more space in the estate and you can fold its rear seats down for small van-like capacity. All versions of the Superb are well equipped and even entry-level S models have air con and a touchscreen infotainment system. SE versions add parking sensors, while the SE Tech brings sat nav. SE L models benefit from heated leather seats, while the Sportline adds chunky sports seats. The luxurious Laurin & Klement trim features heated rear seats and adaptive cruise control, which maintains a safe distance to the car in front on the motorway.
Running costs and reliability
The Superb provides excellent value as a used car thanks to its extremely attractive pricing and generous standard equipment. The petrol and diesel engines are cost-effective to run, delivering excellent fuel economy and low annual tax bills. Reliability is Skoda’s strength, with the brand finishing second in the JD Power dependability survey. The Superb is a safe choice with a five-star Euro NCAP rating, thanks to numerous hi-tech driver aids. Its servicing and insurance costs are also often lower than mainstream rivals.
How it compares with similar cars
The Superb is the largest Skoda family car so it’s bigger than the popular Skoda Octavia. It’s a more spacious and comfortable choice than rivals, such as the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia. It’s interior comes close to matching models from Audi or BMW with its high-quality finish and impressive infotainment technology. The Superb has won numerous awards, including being named both ‘Best Executive Car’ and ‘Best Estate Car’ four years in a row by What Car magazine.
