That shrinks slightly in models with an automatic gearbox and four-wheel drive. Road tax and insurance costs are relatively low. Safety experts Euro NCAP awarded the Eclipse Cross a full five-star rating as it comes with a lot of driver safety systems as standard.

How it compares with similar cars

There are many other mid-size SUVs to choose from, including the Skoda Karoq and Vauxhall Grandland X. But the Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross stands out from the crowd, rates highly on safety and offers good value for money.
