If you want a car that costs less than most rivals and quite possibly a long manufacturer warranty, a used MG could be just the thing. Used MG car models range from compact hatchbacks to large family SUVs, with affordable pure-electric models in between.

All new MG cars come with a seven-year warranty that’s transferable to later owners. The warranty is valid as long as the car has been maintained according to MG’s specifications.

Which used MG cars are for sale?

There’s a wide range of used MG cars available, including compact but practical hatchbacks, family-friendly SUVs and a trio of pure-electric cars.

The smallest is the MG3 five-door hatchback, which has been available since 2013. An all-new hybrid version arrived in 2024.

The MG4 EV is a mid-size pure-electric car that’s a rival for cars such as the Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen ID.3, while the MG5 EV is a pure-electric estate car.

MG’s range of SUVs includes the ZS and HS, the latter being a replacement for the old GS. The ZS has the advantage of being available as a pure-electric model.

Are there any hybrid or electric MG models?

MG’s pure-electric models are the MG4 EV, MG ZS EV and MG5 EV. These will be joined later in 2024 by the MG Cyberster electric sports car.

The HS is MG’s only plug-in hybrid and it offers an official range of 32 miles from a fully charged battery. The new MG3 Hybrid+ – introduced in early 2024 – is a conventional ‘self-charging’ hybrid that doesn’t need to be plugged in to top the battery up.

What are the most popular MG models?

MG3

The MG3 went on sale in 2013 as MG’s rival for compact hatchbacks such as the Ford Fiesta and Vauxhall Corsa. The version sold until 2024 is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, while the new model is MG’s first ‘self-charging’ hybrid’.

MG ZS 

The MG ZS is a compact SUV with a spacious interior, large boot and lots of equipment included as standard. As well as a petrol engine, from 2019 it has been available as the appropriately named ZS EV, a pure-electric version that offers an official range of up to 273 miles from a fully charged battery.

MG HS 

The MG HS is a family SUV that’s available with petrol or plug-in hybrid power. In both cases, it has a 1.5-litre petrol engine, but the hybrid has an additional electric motor and a pure-electric range of 32 miles, according to official figures. 

MG5 

Introduced in 2020, the MG5 EV was the only pure-electric estate car on sale in the UK until the Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer was introduced in 2024. An update in 2022 coincided with a change of name, with the MG5 EV Long Range now offering up to 250 miles of official range.

MG4 EV 

The MG 4 EV is one of the most affordable pure-electric cars you can buy, but it offers much more than just a low price. Striking looks, a smart interior and a long list of equipment are just some of the highlights, along with as much as 323 miles of range, according to official figures.

Which MG models are SUVs?

The MG SUV models are the ZS, GS and HS. As the smallest of the three, the ZS is a rival to compact SUVs such as the Nissan Juke, Renault Captur and Skoda Kamiq, but it has the advantage of offering a pure-electric version in the form of the ZS EV.

The HS is a mid-size family SUV that’s more affordable than rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai, Skoda Karoq or Honda CR-V. There are two versions available: a standard model with petrol power or a plug-in hybrid, the latter offering up to 32 miles of pure-electric range.

Sold new between 2016 and 2019, the GS was MG’s first SUV sold in the UK. All versions are powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine, with some later models still covered by MG’s seven-year warranty.
