Ford is an American car brand that’s one of the biggest and most well-known car makers in the world. One of Ford’s biggest strengths is its broad appeal, with cars to suit all manner of requirements and budgets. Ford cars are especially enjoyable to drive and most are very cost-effective to buy and run.
The range of used Ford cars for sale in the UK includes something to suit a wide variety of needs and budgets. If you’re after something small and cost-effective, look for the Ka and Ka+ city cars, while the Fiesta hatchback was, for many years, the best-selling car in the UK. For a larger hatchback, saloon or estate car, look at the Focus or the bigger Mondeo.
Fancy a Ford SUV? Check out the budget-friendly EcoSport, the excellent Puma or the family-friendly Kuga, as well as the all-electric and sporty Mustang Mach-E. If you’ve got a big family you might be tempted by the C-Max, S-Max or Galaxy MPVs. And if you’re looking for fun and exhilaration from your next car, there are several high-performance models including the Fiesta ST and Focus ST hot hatch models.
Ford doesn’t make as many pure-electric models as some other car brands, with the Mustang Mach-E SUV its only electric car sold in the UK so far.
When it comes to hybrids, several models are available with mild-hybrid technology including the Fiesta, Puma, Focus and Kuga. The Kuga is also available as a plug-in hybrid, with an electric-only range of up to 41 miles. Full-hybrid options include the Kuga and the S-Max and Galaxy MPVs.
For many years, the Ford Fiesta was the best-selling car in the UK, which means there are lots of used Fiestas for sale. It’s a compact hatchback that comes with a range of fuel-efficient engines and it feels comfortable yet fun to drive.
The Ford Focus is a hugely popular mid-size family car. Most Focuses sold are hatchbacks but you can also find estate versions and, less commonly, saloons. Whatever version you opt for will be a fantastic all-rounder – well-equipped, comfortable and surprisingly fun to drive, especially if you go for a performance model like the Focus ST or the Focus RS.
The Ford EcoSport is Ford’s smallest SUV – it’s very affordable for a car of this type, and gives you very low running costs. It’s available with front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive and although it’s tiny on the outside it’s got a good amount of space inside.
The Ford Puma is a small SUV that was introduced in 2019 and was the best-selling new car in the UK in 2023. It’s one of the best cars of this type, with an especially large boot and lots of equipment included as standard.
The Ford Kuga is Ford’s mid-size SUV – a rival for cars such as the Nissan Qashqai. It’s good to drive and has a range of power options, from petrol and diesel to full-hybrid and plug-in hybrid. The latest version is well-equipped and practical, with a large boot and back seats that can slide forwards and backwards.
Ford’s SUV model range starts with the small value-for-money EcoSport and then heads to the Fiesta-size Puma, which is one of the best small SUVs you can buy. After that there’s the practical Kuga, which takes up the same space on the road as a Focus. Then you have the larger all-electric Mustang Mach-E. A new Ford SUV, called the Explorer, is to be introduced midway through 2024. It’ll be all-electric and sit between the Puma and Kuga in terms of size.

After 47 years and eight generations of Ford Fiesta, the final car rolled off the production line in July 2023 after Ford decided to stop producing it. As of early 2024 there’s no direct replacement lined up – Ford says customers are more interested in the similar-size Puma SUV.
