The C5 Aircross is a mid-sized SUV that stands out from the crowd thanks to its distinctive design. It features special ‘Airbump’ plastic panels on the doors that are designed to protect it from minor scrapes, as well as the option of different-coloured exterior features that give it a bold look.

How it drives

The C5 Aircross is a relaxing car to drive, with a softer, more comfortable ride than many rivals. Light steering and big door mirrors make parking simple and every model has rear parking sensors, so you’ll always know how much space you have to spare in the car park. There’s no four-wheel drive option but some models have a ‘Grip Control’ system that uses the car’s electronics to adjust the amount of power that goes to the front wheels to help prevent them from slipping.

The interior

The C5 Aircross is roughly the same size as rivals such as the Nissan Qashqai and Peugeot 3008. It’s a practical family car with five doors and five seats. The boot is larger than many rivals’, with a 580-litre capacity that’s enough for two large suitcases plus a pushchair. It’s versatile too, with three back seats that slide, fold and recline independently.

Every model is well-equipped; entry-level Feel trim includes climate control and a digital dashboard while Flair models have a reversing camera, sat nav and a dash cam. Flair Plus trim adds a glass roof, wireless phone charging and a boot lid with hands-free opening.

Running costs and reliability

The C5 Aircross is competitively priced against rivals. All petrol and diesel engines are very efficient, which keeps fuel and tax bills to a minimum. Citroen’s recent reliability record is good. Flair and Flair Plus trims received a full five-star rating from safety organisation Euro NCAP thanks to those trims’ standard safety packs, while the entry-level Feel has a four-star rating.
