The previous LHDonly E30 generation had laid the groundwork, but the E36 brought along far more comfort and refinement without diluting the appeal. The E36 M3 also offered manageable traction to enhance the balance of power without biting back. Its useability is reinforced by its respectable fuel economy and space for the family. It proved hugely successful, with almost 29,000 M3s produced over its production run. In 1995, the improved Evolution model was launched, now with a new 3.2litre straight six mated up to a sixspeed gearbox. Visually similar to the less powerful version, the Evo model is powered by the S50 B32 engine with variable valve timing (dualVANOS), an advanced engine management system and lightweight pistons this placed it as the first BMW production engine to put away over 100bhp per litre. Harnessing that power with upgrades to the suspension and braking system, resulted in the M3 being quicker than a 993 Porsche 911 Carrera.This very original 1996 car finished in "Metallic Techno Violet" has a grey leather interior, and has had just 3 former keepers.
