The 535d was a pioneer in "sporting diesels," using a twostage turbocharging system to eliminate lag at low revs while maintaining power through to 4,800 rpm.The 3.0L Inline6 BiTurbo (M57 engine), delivering relentless, smooth power being mated to a 6speed automatic gearbox, noted for its long ratios and suitability for highspeed cruising and being electronically limited to 155 mph.
