Front brake disc conversionNew hoodJDHT CertificateThe Jaguar XK120 was produced from 1948 to 1954 and marked Jaguars return to sports car manufacturing after the war, its first since the SS100 ended production in 1940. Unveiled as a show car at the 1948 London Motor Show, the XK120 was originally intended to showcase Jaguars new XK engine. Its stunning reception persuaded founder Sir William Lyons to put it into full production. The 120 denoted its remarkable 120mph top speed, making it the fastest standard production car in the world at launch. Initially offered as an open roadster, the XK120 range expanded to include a Fixed Head Coupe in 1951 and a Drophead Coupe in 1953. At its heart was the advanced 3.4litre twin overheadcam straightsix XK engine, featuring an alloy cylinder head and twin SU carburettors. This robust and sophisticated design later evolved into 3.8 and 4.2litre forms, remaining in production well into the 1980s.This particular XK120 SE Roadster was manufactured on 13th January 1953 and dispatched to Hornburg in Los Angeles just two weeks later. Repatriated to the UK in 2018, it was subsequently converted to righthand drive. The car presents attractively in silver with a red leather interior, complemented by wellmaintained chrome and a relatively new hood. Restoration work has clearly been undertaken during its life, and it remains in very pleasing order throughout. Recent light recommissioning has been carried out due to limited use, preparing the car for its next custodian. A disc brake conversion has been fitted to enhance usability and improve braking performance, making it particularly well suited to modern driving conditions. The engine starts readily and runs smoothly with no untoward noises, while the gearbox delivers clean and precise changes. Accompanied by a V5C registration document, a Jaguar Heritage Trust Certificate and a collection of invoices, this wellsorted XK120 SE is a capable and comfortable example, ready to be enjoyed on the open road. Consigned by Stewart Banks.
