IverThis Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. Previously restoredSold with cherished plateThe MercedesBenz 450 SL, introduced as part of the R107 series in the early 1970s, represents one of Stuttgarts most durable and refined grand touring roadsters. Conceived as a successor to the Pagoda SL, the R107 combined understated elegance with robust engineering, longdistance comfort and exemplary build quality. Powered by a smooth, torquerich V8, the 450 SL delivers effortless, relaxed performance, perfectly aligned with its role as a luxury touring car rather than an outright sports model. While widely sold in North America, the 450 SL was comparatively rare in the UK when new, with most examples delivered in left hand drive and only a small number officially supplied to the British market. As a result, UKbased cars have always been scarce, adding a further layer of desirability today. Its timeless styling, advanced safety features and reputation for longevity have ensured lasting appeal, and surviving UK examples are now increasingly soughtafter by collectors seeking a usable, V8powered classic with genuine rarity. This example of the desirable 450 SL is presented in metallic silver with contrasting black and Tex trim which are all in very good condition for its age suggesting this was fully retrimmed when restored. Initially first registered on 19th February 1977, this example has had just six previous keepers in 49 years and our vendor has owned since 2019. In his tenure having spent a significant sum on maintenance because this was a bucket list purchase. As mentioned, there is evidence in the history file of previous restoration and body work which aids in this example looking very fresh, the chromework is lovely and there are no cracks in the dash and being a 450 the V8 purrs along even in modern day traffic. The perfect summer classic for those who want a more modern performance while retaining that iconic 70s design. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
