IverThis Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. Unique 1960 MGA Roadster SpecialBuilt with excellent attention to detail throughoutDistinguished period racing pedigreeAn iconic example of British motoring, this 1960 MGA Roadster Special captures the elegance and charm that made the MGA one of the most beloved sportscars of its era. This oneofakind Roadster is powered by a refurbished, tuned and balanced 1.9 litre MGB engine built to fastroad specification, paired with a fivespeed Type9 gearbox, delivering a lively yet tractable driving experience. The car boasts a distinguished period competition history and is built around a steel tubular frame, typical of 1950s and 1960s racing cars, mounted to the standard MGA chassis and running gear, ensuring ease of maintenance and access to readily available classic MG components. The car features bespoke, handrolled aluminium bodywork and a removable hardtop secured with discreet fixings, painstakingly fabricated from scratch by renowned specialists MJS Panels over a fiveyear build period, requiring approximately 5,000 hours of skilled craftsmanship. The estimated cost to replicate today would exceed £140,000. The unique, bespoke handformed aluminium bodywork is inspired by the rakish lines of postwar competition cars. The donor MGA was stripped of its heavy original steel bodywork, with the chassis strengthened as required. English wheelformed aluminium panels create swooping, curvaceous lines, finished with a signature bumperless Kammtail rear, giving the car a devilishly handsome stance. Inside, bare aluminium panels are combined with custom leather sports seats with tilting backrests, creating a striking cockpit. Period details include a riveted MotoLita woodrimmed steering wheel, engraved switches, an antique chrono stopclock, bulletstyle aluminium wing mirrors, a Le Mansstyle fuel filler, bonnetmounted Perspex bugscreen, and 16 wire wheels shod with periodcorrect Blockley tyres.Finished in a lustrous racing red, the paintwork accentuates the aluminium bodys delicate curves. Fully roadlegal, the cars lightweight construction and enhanced engine deliver performance markedly superior to that of a standard MGA, while twin stainlesssteel exhausts provide a rich, evocative soundtrack under acceleration. With a distinguished racing history, including first in class at the 1984 Monte Carlo Historic Rally and numerous MG Car Club events, this example combines stunning craftsmanship with an exhilarating, roadgoing driving experience. A genuinely rare and beautifully executed motorcar, it is equally a work of automotive artistry and a true drivers car. Supplied to auction with a V5 registration document, keys, restoration photographs and paperwork. Consigned by Baljit Singh
