IverThis Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. Original right hand drive UK supplied exampleFerrari Classiche certifiedCirca 1,000 miles since a major engine and gearbox rebuildDelivered new in November 1972 by Maranello Concessionaires, this Series 3 Ferrari Dino 246 GTS was first registered to Mr Tipper of South Kensington. Period correspondence on file between Mr Tipper, Maranello Concessionaires and Ferrari confirms that the car was initially specified in Rosso Chiaro Red before a late change of mind resulted in delivery in the far rarer Blu Dino metallic, complemented by a black 161 interior. Factory options included metallic paint and electric windows, while the desirable plexiglass headlamp covers and Ferrari badges were fitted by Maranello Concessionaires at the time of delivery. These early documents remain with the car today and form an important part of its welldocumented provenance, offering a clear insight into its original specification and early life. The Dino benefitted from its first significant restoration in 1987, undertaken by Gray Paul Ferrari. This comprehensive programme encompassed an engine overhaul, refurbishment of the chassis and body, and a retrimmed interior, with the work totalling £20,242. During this period the odometer was replaced, having previously recorded 42,540 miles. In the early 1990s the car passed through the hands of DK Engineering before being sold on to its next owner. Further restoration work followed in 2000, at which point the car was refinished in Rosso Corsa, a colour it continues to wear today to striking effect. The current vendor acquired the Dino in 2020 following a 16year ownership by the previous owner, who used it regularly, including participation in numerous touring events across Europe. Throughout this longterm ownership the Ferrari was serviced on multiple occasions and maintained with care, supplemented by ongoing expenditure as required. In 2019, the car was treated to a major engine and gearbox rebuild, with just 1,000 miles covered since.Today, the Dino is presented in very good order throughout. The bodywork remains crisp and well finished, with the Rosso Corsa paintwork displaying an attractive depth of colour and only minor imperfections commensurate with 25 years of careful use. The chrome trim and brightwork are in good condition, as is the engine bay, which presents particularly well. Inside, the cabin is equally appealing, featuring the highly soughtafter Daytona seats, a correct Mouse Hair dashboard and wellpreserved carpets. The seats display a light patina that adds character without detracting from the overall presentation.Accompanying the car is a comprehensive history file containing restoration invoices, correspondence, old MoT test certificates, sales paperwork and Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification, confirming the retention of its original engine, gearbox, body and chassis. Documentation suggests the Dino has covered approximately 68,000 miles from new, although this cannot be warranted. Maintained without compromise and reported to drive extremely well, this welldocumented and attractively presented Dino would make a rewarding addition to any serious Ferrari collection.
