More info
This Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. One of just 160 right hand drive examples built. In current ownership since 2009. BMW Car magazine featured in 2009. Extensive maintenance history. The BMW 850 CSi is the ultimate performance version of the E31 8 Series, produced between 1992 and 1996 and widely regarded as the closest the E31 ever came to a true Mcar. A total of 1,510 850 CSi units were built worldwide: 1,125 left hand drive European examples, 160 right hand drive European ones, and 225 for the U.S. market. Of the right hand drive cars, about 153 were allocated to the UK. What sets the 850 CSi apart from a standard 8 Series is its BMW Motorsportdeveloped 5.6 litre S70B56 V12 making around 380hp, paired exclusively with a sixspeed manual gearbox, whereas regular 850i/850Ci models used milder V12s and often automatic transmissions. The CSi also received a stiffer chassis, quicker steering, revised aerodynamics, fourwheel steering (in Euro cars), upgraded brakes, unique bodywork, and bespoke interior touches, making it significantly more focused and rarer than the regular E31 8 Series. Our vendor purchased this example in 2009 after previously owning a regular E31 8 series as the CSi was always his dream car. This CSi is presented in one of the best colours, and boasts an impressive maintenance history, despite being laid up for some years. Notable invoices include the replacement of the Bilstein shock absorbers, along with suspension bushes and front and rear top mounts in 2013, just 5,000 miles ago. The car will clearly need some recommissioning, but it does run and looks to be in pretty good condition overall, it has been off the road for around ten years now after some small work turned into a few years and then life got in the way! The decision has been made to sell this CSi and let the next enthusiast return it to its former glory, we think this is an extremely exciting and worthwhile project for one of BMWs most impressive cars and one which is adored by collectors due to its extremely low build numbers. The car is supplied to auction with a V5 registration document, an impressive service record showing regular maintenance throughout its life until being taken off the road around 2015. There is also a bill from 2021 for an oil change, two new batteries and AC condenser and various other small jobs, as well as a recent bill for replacement of the fuel pumps.
