This Lot will be sold at auction at Symphony of Spring; Ascot Racecourse on Saturday 7th March. Home market right hand drive car. Presented in rare original Alamo Beige. Extensively restored between 20042006. For the debut of its new MGA in 1955, MG wisely chose that years Le Mans 24 Hour race; after a succession of openwheeled models there were fears of an adverse reaction to such a streamlined car, and it was felt that by showing the MGA in competition first, the aerodynamic shape would be accepted as a performance essential. The competition successes of the ZA Magnette had already proved the potential of its new 1,498cc fourcylinder engine, and this was chosen for the new MGA. With 68bhp at 5,550rpm, soon raised to 72bhp, the MGA was capable of 060mph in 15 seconds and 97mph while the predictable handling, via independent coil spring front suspension and live leafsprung rear axle, was almost fool proof. The car was an instant success, and in 1956 the roadster was joined by a fixedhead coupe. This example is an original home market right hand drive car, presented in the rare and attractive shade of Alamo Beige, which suits the car exceedingly well. The car spent some of its life in the USA before returning to the UK in 2003 and being treated to an extensive restoration, which was completed in 2006. The restoration was clearly carried out to a very high standard and it still holds up well today. Our vendor purchased the car in 2016 and has covered a couple of thousand miles during that time, always keeping the car garaged and never driving it in the rain, but has decided that someone else would be able to enjoy the car much more than him this spring, thus offering it for sale. Recent work in 2023 includes fitment of a hitorque starter motor and conversion to alternator, as well as a service and MoT. This MGA is now ready to be enjoyed and we feel it represents excellent value given its a particularly rare colour and in excellent condition. Supplied to auction with a V5C registration document, BMIHT Certificate, photos of the restoration and handful of bills and receipts. Consigned by Fraser Smith
