The 1966 MercedesBenz 220 SE Fintail, or Heckflosse, represents the elegance and engineering precision of Mercedes W111 series. Powered by a smooth 2.2 litre fuelinjected inlinesix, it delivered refined performance and exceptional durability. Its subtle rear fins, inspired by American styling trends, added distinction while enhancing visibility. Inside, the cabin showcased craftsmanship with wood trim, supportive seats, and advanced safety features for its era. Today, the 220 SE remains a beloved classic, valued for its reliability, character, and timeless midcentury design. The original sales invoice shows that this delightful saloon was purchased by our vendors grandfather in March 1966 for £2,788 and has stayed with the same family ever since. Originally bought as a daily driver, this stylish four door family saloon was, in later life, pressed into service as a wedding car. In its 59year history, the car has seen regular but limited use by three generations. On a recent test, it started first time and ran well. The car is fitted with a bonnet mascot of the Greek god Hermes that symbolises speed, travel, commerce and protection and was fitted for good fortune on the road. This rare model is offered to auction with a V5C registration document, original owners handbooks, various service invoices, previous MoT test certificates and tax discs. Consigned by Dominic Lake
