AshorneThis lot will be auctioned via Iconic Auctioneers, The Iconic Sale at Race Retro 2026 Collectors' Cars on Saturday the 21st of February, Stoneleigh Park, Stoneleigh Rd, Coventry, CV8 2LG. , For some years now it's been essential for major manufacturers to incorporate hybrid or allelectric options into their line up. BMW took this a step further by launching BMW i, a brand dedicated to promoting environmentally friendly vehicles. Leading this initiative was the i8, which made its debut as a concept at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show before hitting the market in April 2014. This plugin hybrid boasts impressive performance, with a 1.5litre turbocharged threecylinder petrol engine powering the rear wheels aided by an electric motor in the front axle assembly. With a combined output of 374bhp equivalent (post2018), the i8 accelerates from 060mph in under 4.4 seconds and is electronically limited to 155mph. Its sleek coup design features 'butterfly' doors and a carbon fibrereinforced passenger cell, contributing to its low drag coefficient and fuel efficiency at high speeds, much of which also applies to the twoseat Roadster which was introduced in May 2018. Whether silently gliding on electric power or unleashing its speed with a flick of a switch, the i8 marked a significant step towards the future, challenging traditional notions of automotive performance. Production numbers were limited, and Roadster variants remain significantly rarer than their Coup counterparts making this the first such example we have had the pleasure to offer.First registered on 17th October 2019, this BMW i8 Roadster is finished in Sophisto Grey with signature blue accents and its futuristic and purposeful sculptural form is perfectly complemented by an Amido Black interior that provides a refined and understated contrast. With just 15,431 miles from new, this example remains in exceptional condition throughout. Its current owner acquired the car from Halliwell Jones BMW in Chester during 2023 and it has resided within the Bunbury collection ever since. Offered reluctantly due to ill health, this represents a rare opportunity to acquire a Roadster that has been carefully preserved rather than merely used.Supplied with an MOT valid until 13th June 2026, this i8 Roadster stands as a modern icon: a bold statement of engineering ambition, design confidence, and collectability. For the discerning enthusiast or collector seeking a lowmileage, highly specified, and increasingly desirable example, this is an opportunity not to be overlooked.A full list of the car's features is available upon request.
