History & Background. Introduced in 1997, the X308-generation XJR took Jaguar's luxury saloon formula and injected it with real muscle. Its all-new AJ-V8 engine received an Eaton supercharger, and an electronically limited top speed. Power went to the rear wheels through a five-speed automatic gearbox. Suspension featured uprated springs and dampers, a lower ride height and Jaguar's excellent independent rear setup.
