The XF was a revelation when it was launched and in my opinion it was one of the last PROPER Jags. These pre-facelift cars have more chrome, more distinct styling and more road presence than the watered-down examples that followed. These feel more Jag... a car that oozes cool from every pore. This 2009 example has aged gracefully and although ours is now nearly 17 years old it has a covered a mere 36k miles and has just 1 former keeper. There is barely any wear and the car drives like new, with smooth power delivery, and an even smoother ride which are synonymous with the Jaguar brand. Unlike a lot of executive cars, the Jag feels special. You get a sense of occasion in this car that is lacking in its rivals. The diesel powerplant is extremely refined - Even when cold it is muted by the well insulated cabin. The centre console has a large touchscreen which displays the cars multimedia stereo system, satellite navigation and the cars climate control system. Everything in this car is fully electric including the large leather seats (which are in high-quality black leather with gorgeous white stitching, for that traditional, luxury feel), and even the steering column which glides upwards when the ignition is off to allow easier access. You will adore the styling and the quality - The attention to detail is superb high quality leather stitching on the seats and traditional wood inlays on the dashboard and door cards. Despite the car having a mammoth amount of electrical goodies its interior manages to look classy and uncluttered. It's a mix of high-tech and tradition make it the perfect place to unwind and escape the stresses of the outside world. The sense of theatre you get when you hit the start button, and the vents all turn in sync as the gear selector rises from the centre console still excites me now as it did when I first saw this model unveiled. Jaguar are a brand synonymous with performance and racing, so it should come as no surprise that the XF may look traditional, but she can really move when needed. The 2.7 diesel in this car has masses of torque which make it feel very powerful even way down in the rev-range. It keeps all that power in check and offers superb handling and roadholding which are guaranteed to please the keen driver, as well as those who want comfort and luxury. At any speed, in any gear, on any incline, there is huge power on tap. Overtaking in the XF is drama-free - burying the throttle is like being hit from behind by a train and then as the revs rise, the surge of power is relentless all the way to the red line. It's is not just impressive in a straight line either.. The Jag has a fine handling balance and a sharp rear wheel drive chassis which offer better handling and ride comfort than its rivals. The gearbox comes with a selectable sport mode for when you want the car to kick down more swiftly, but in any gear and at any speed there always seems to be more than enough power on-tap. I can imagine this would be a wonderful car to take on a long road trip with its blend of performance and comfort. The XF makes a pleasurable companion when you need to cover ground quickly. The leather chairs are among the most comfortable I have ever sat in and there are front and rear park distance sensors which provide both an acoustic aid when parking. It's hard to put into words, so you really do need to experience this car for yourself, but needless to say, our XF is one of the lowest mileage and best condition examples in existence today.
