Auctioned on Saturday 29th November.

This lot will be auctioned via Historics Classic and Sportscar Auctioneers at The Brooklands Velocity; Mercedes-Benz World sale on Saturday 29th November. Very rare Borg Warner Automatic gearbox. Blaupunkt stereo & Webasto sunshine roof. The MGB was a revelation to the British sports car industry moving away, as it did from body-on-frame models to a more modern monocoque system of construction. This resulted in welcome weight savings, reduced manufacturing costs and far better handling. The sporting coupe, designed by Pininfarina, was only offered in GT form after its sister roadster variant launched 1962. Originally powered by a three-bearing crank engine, this was swiftly replaced by a five-bearing unit some two years into production. Swift performance figures, a sporting pedigree and refined styling lines. The interior was very roomy in fact with space allegedly for four and a large rear compartment, with if the rear seats were folded down, allowed for a very roomy luggage platform. The options list was equally interesting with a heater costing £14, overdrive at £60 and seatbelts at £3 each!First registered on 19th May 1972, this attractive MGB GT had been owned by the previous owner for 10 years who had a full engine-out restoration undertaken under his guidance. The new red coachwork has clearly been very well restored and, at the same time, the engine and automatic gearbox were stripped down and rebuilt. The dashboard has been replaced with an upgraded burr-walnut unit which sets of the lustrous paintwork well. A Webasto sunshine roof has been fitted alongside a modern Blaupunkt stereo, both items combine to create a fun driving atmosphere. The vendor bought the car in 2023 from us and has had various electrical issues fixed as well as having new plugs, leads, distributor cap, coil, etc fitted, oil changed and the front brakes and tyres restored/replaced. The vendor reports the car starts first time and drives well.Supplied with a V5C registration document and MoT test certificate valid through until October 2026. Registered as a Cat D in March 2007, the car has since been repaired to a high standard. These fabulous little sports cars are both fun and practical and with the addition of the very rare Borg and Warner automatic gearbox, also a unique talking point at any classic car events. These MGB GTs never fail to put a smile on your face. Consigned by Will Penrose
