Introduced at the Geneva Salon, it bridged the gap between the 230 SL and the later 280 SL, combining the crisp, elegant Paul Bracq styling with improved performance and handling. Powered by a 2,496cc straight-six with a seven-bearing crankshaft, the 250 SL offered smoother power delivery and greater torque than its predecessor, while retaining the balanced chassis and light, precise controls that made these cars such superb long distance tourers.
