Bought a 1980 1600 Sport from Fairmont in September that was advertised as having a full internal, external and mechanical restoration. It ran out of fuel inside the ferry terminal in Belfast as the fuel gauge was faulty. Thankfully we hadn’t reached the 5-lane motorway a mile from the terminal. This could have been serious as the hazzard warning light switch was missing. On driving home there was a very harsh vibration coming from the car which makes it undrivable. A World Cup crossmember was fitted which is for rally cars, not road cars & the wheels were hitting the rear wheel arches as the wrong tyres were fitted. We noted the temperature gauge wasn’t working. For a classic car this is critical. We also found botched wiring that we had to fix. This was advertised as a fully restored car and ready for sale. It wasn’t. The reason I didn’t come and look at the car was that both myself and my brother spoke to Adam on several occasions and he assured us that the car was in A1 condition. If we had come and looked at the car, it would have broken down on a test drive and we would have walked away, but we took what Adam said on good faith. And it turned out the car wasn’t roadworthy and some of the faults, especially the botched wiring and the fuel and temperature gauges not working, are dangerous. Staff at Fairmont have been no help other than to refund me a paltry \xa3200 which doesn’t come close to the expense I am out. My experience with Fairmont has been both disappointing and traumatic due to the botched work and the quality of the restoration.
