The Continental R was the pinnacle of Bentley's engineering, known for being the fastest, most luxurious, and most powerful car of its time. At its launch, it held the title of the most expensive production car in the world listed from £187,000. Introduced in 1991, the Continental R featured the impressive 6.75 L turbocharged V8 engine from the Turbo R, paired with a new 4speed automatic transmission. It boasted selflevelling hydraulic suspension and ventilated disc brakes at the front, equipped with twin callipers for a smooth ride and exceptional stopping power. By the 1996 model year, the Continental R received several factory enhancements, marking some of the most notable updates since its debut. These improvements led to better throttle response and fuel efficiency, along with a digitally controlled turbo overboost, resulting in increased engine power. This particular Continental R, first registered in February 1996, showcases a refined solid Blue exterior and is fitted with 17inch Azure wheels. Inside, the Continental R exudes elegance, adorned with parchment leather and walnut trim. The meticulous attention to detail in the headliner and the luxurious seating make for a truly comfortable driving experience. Due to its handbuilt nature, only 544 righthand drive versions of the Continental R were produced out of a total of 1,292 between 1992 and 2001, surpassing Crewes production capabilities. In 2022, we sold this car to a large private collection, which we manage. It has travelled less than 1,000 miles and has been regularly started while in our storage facility. Now, its time for this Continental to find a new home as we welcome a new addition to the collection. The sale will come with a complete service and MOT..
The Classicwise Collection is a company formed by Sam Fretwell after he became unable to continue in his employment as a result of injuries sustained as the innocent party in a near fatal road accident in May 2012. Sam has grown up around classic cars and knows all about them as his father used to import rust-free European sports cars from California USA and also built up a successful Porsche 911 sales and service business in the 1990’s. Since leaving school in 2007 Sam worked for the family business Weonlymot.co.uk, initially on reception at the various branches, but then became one of the youngest people ever to become an authorised MOT tester, and then by the end of 2011 was promoted to Branch Development Manager. He had identified, equipped and just opened his first new weonlymot.co.uk branch in Grimsby and was on his way back from there to the Ollerton head office when he involved in the horrific accident. Calling upon his father’s experience in addition to that already amassed himself, Sam’s intention is to establish himself and his company in the classic car business offering initially classic car service and repair, alongside vehicle sales & brokerage. He hopes to be able to offer classic car storage and enclosed transportation as the business develops at Bypass Garage Epperstone. The Classicwise Collection are always interested in any classic vehicle from the early 1900’s to the 1990’s. The images to the right were taken in December 1997 the little chap is Sam.
