Engine rebuiltA wellpresented restored exampleA 1964 Volkswagen Camper, commonly known as the Volkswagen Type 2, is one of the most recognizable and beloved vehicles ever produced. Part of the firstgeneration splitwindow series, this model features the iconic divided windshield that gives it a distinctive, friendly face. Built by Volkswagen, the camper quickly became a symbol of freedom, adventure, and countercultural spirit during the 1960s. Powered by a modest rearmounted, aircooled flatfour engine, these campers were not designed for speed, but for reliability and simplicity. Its lightweight construction and straightforward mechanical design made it relatively easy to maintain. The engine typically produced around 40 horsepower, paired with a fourspeed manual transmission, allowing drivers to cruise comfortably along scenic highways rather than rush down them. Inside, the camper conversion transformed the practical van into a compact home on wheels. Many models featured foldout beds, compact cabinetry and storage compartments, this example is also fitted with a fridge. Popular conversions were completed by companies such as Westfalia, whose interiors are especially prized by collectors today. Clever spacesaving designs allowed families and travellers to sleep, cook, and relax within a remarkably small footprint. This Camper van was imported from the U.S. in 2016 and underwent a restoration upon its arrival in the UK. The 1600cc engine has been rebuilt and runs well. The interior has been retrimmed and is in very good order. The bodywork has also been taken care of and shows no sign of corrosion, the grey and blue twotone paintwork is in very good order. This is a left hand drive Split screen Camper that can be enjoyed immediately. Beyond its mechanical features, a Volkswagen Camper carries deep cultural significance. It became closely associated with road trips and surf culture. Today, restored models are highly sought after by enthusiasts who appreciate their timeless design, nostalgic charm, and enduring spirit of adventure. Consigned by Stewart Banks.
