For years, the Defender weasled its way into the hearts and minds of the motoring public. Often, the choice of farmers, wannabe farmers and city slickers alike. We have excused its foibles, its agricultural nature, all because it has remained unequivocally true to itself.And yet, due to growing pressure from new car regulations, Land Rover made the sad but inevitable choice to discontinue it. In early 2016, the last of the original Defenders rolled off the production line. Whilst its replacement is arguably a better car, love for the original has clung on, with late model Defenders continuing to command a premium.This car is one of those late examples, a 2014 Land Rover Defender 110. This car started its life as part of a commercial transport business fleet, maintained meticulously by their inhouse mechanics. It was supplied new in Indus Silver, before being repainted in Maroon and entering private ownership. Externally, this Defender is pretty spectacular. The most obvious upgrades come in the form of a set of Twisted Rostyle wheels, wrapped in chunky BF Goodrich KO3 rubber. At the rear, a NASstyle spare wheel carrier, upgraded rear bumper and at the front, a bumpermounted winch. The front end is finished not only by the characteristic bonnet bulge of Pumaengined Defenders, but by the upgraded LED headlamps, which offer a radical improvement of lumenoutput compared to the tealights fitted to standard examples.The interior has also been lightly tweaked; a set of Exmoor trim seat covers has been fitted, colourmatched to the softtop, and the centre console trim has been colourmatched to the bodywork. Despite being a 2014, the car features no radio, but thanks to the Defenders TonkaToylike construction, it is an easy addition. The load bed has been finished with colourtinted Raptor liner, a hardwearing rubberised paint that offers protection from scuffs and scrapes.As mentioned earlier, this is a Pumapowered Defender. In particular, a 2.2litre Puma, sourced from Ford, is a reliable, tough and dependable 4cylinder Turbo diesel, which, whilst it is not going to set the world alight, when combined with the 6speed manual gearbox, allows you to actually use a Defender on the motorway. The car has covered less than 15,000 miles from new, so it unsurprisingly runs perfectly, and despite the limited mileage, it has paperwork to back up regular maintenance not only within the Land Rover network but with its original commercial owners.You do not really own a Defender; it sort of arrives and becomes part of your family. Much like a Labrador, you will rely on it when you need it, and it will always be there to join you on adventures, making memories and exploring. This one is a mighty fine example, a very late car, with less than 15,000 miles on the clock, and just 4 owners from new.Included in the sale are a set of upgraded Twisted vent covers and a Stage 1 Twisted grille that have not yet been fitted.As with all our vehicles, an entire digital folder is available upon request and contains more images, walkaround videos, and scans of the service history.
