When Peugeot transformed the 5008 from a sensible-but-dull MPV into a sharp and stylish SUV in 2017, they created something really special. This is a seven-seat family car that doesn't just focus on practicality; it does it all with a huge dose of French flair. It shares its bold looks and futuristic interior with the smaller 3008, making it one of the most desirable and distinctive large SUVs you can buy. It’s a car that prioritises comfort and refinement, making it a superb long-distance cruiser for family holidays. The cabin is a real highlight – it feels like something from a concept car and is packed with high-quality materials. While it’s not the most exciting car to drive and the third row of seats is best for kids, the 5008 is a brilliant all-rounder. It combines head-turning looks, a premium-feeling cabin, and seven-seat practicality in one very appealing package.
Pros
- Efficient petrol and diesel engines
- Huge and practical boot with the third row folded
- Stunning design, both inside and out
Cons
- The infotainment system can be frustrating to use
- High-spec versions get quite expensive
- The optional sunroof can limit headroom for rear passengers
Interior

Dashboard & tech
Step inside the 5008 and you're in for a treat. Peugeot’s 'i-Cockpit' design is like nothing else in this class. You get a tiny steering wheel, a high-set digital driver's display that you look at over the wheel, and a beautifully designed dashboard with cool 'piano key' shortcut buttons. It feels incredibly modern and upmarket.
The quality is fantastic, with lots of soft-touch materials and smart-looking trim that give it a genuinely premium feel. The only real frustration is that you have to use the central touchscreen for almost everything, including the climate controls, which can be a bit fiddly when you're driving. But if you want a car with a real wow-factor interior, the 5008 is hard to beat.
Comfort
If you’re looking for a comfortable family wagon, the 5008 is a fantastic choice. It has been set up to provide a smooth and supple ride, doing a brilliant job of soaking up bumps and making long journeys feel effortless. It’s quiet and refined on the motorway, making it a wonderfully relaxing car to travel in.
The driving position is great, and the seats are comfortable and supportive. It’s a car that’s designed to carry a family in comfort, and it absolutely nails that brief. It’s one of the most comfortable and relaxing large SUVs you can buy.
Quality
The 5008’s cabin feels genuinely premium, and it’s a big step up from Peugeots of old. The materials used are high-quality, and everything feels solid and well put together. It has the look and feel of a much more expensive car, and it really helps to justify the price tag.
Peugeot’s reliability record has improved a lot in recent years, and this latest generation of cars feels robust and dependable. The interior isn’t just stylish; it feels like it’s built to withstand the tough demands of family life.
Practicality & boot space

Interior space
Practicality is hugely important in a seven-seat SUV, and the 5008 delivers. The middle row consists of three individual seats that can slide and recline independently, which is brilliant for keeping everyone happy. There’s plenty of legroom and headroom, though it’s worth noting that the optional panoramic sunroof does eat into the headroom for taller passengers.
The third row of seats is best reserved for children or for occasional use by adults on short journeys, as space is quite tight. However, the seats can be folded away neatly into the boot floor or even removed completely to maximise luggage space. There are also lots of clever storage cubbies dotted around the cabin.
Boot space
With all seven seats in place, boot space is quite limited, as you’d expect. But fold the third row of seats down, and you open up a huge 780-litre boot, which is one of the biggest in its class. It’s a massive, square space that will swallow everything a family can throw at it, from pushchairs and holiday luggage to the spoils of a big trip to a furniture store. It’s an incredibly practical car.
Driving

Driving experience
The Peugeot 5008 is not a car that’s designed for sporty, spirited driving. The focus is very much on comfort and refinement. The small steering wheel can feel a bit odd at first in such a large car, and the handling is safe and predictable rather than fun and engaging. There’s a bit of body roll in the corners if you push it hard.
But that’s missing the point of the 5008. Settle into a relaxed pace, and it’s a brilliant companion. The suspension is soft and forgiving, the steering is light, and it’s an incredibly easy car to drive. For comfortable and safe family transport, it’s a tough car to fault. It’s worth noting that, unlike some rival seven-seat SUVs, the 5008 is not available with four-wheel drive.
Performance
The engine range for the 5008 is simple and effective, with a choice of excellent petrol and diesel options. The most popular petrol is a brilliant 1.2-litre turbocharged engine that produces 128bhp. It sounds small for a big car, but it’s surprisingly punchy and economical. There’s also a more powerful 1.6-litre petrol engine.
The diesel engines are fantastic for high-mileage drivers. There’s an efficient 1.5-litre diesel with 129bhp, and a more powerful 2.0-litre diesel with 175bhp, which is great for towing. Most engines are available with a smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox.
Running costs
Fuel economy & CO2 emissions
For such a large car, the Peugeot 5008 is surprisingly cheap to run. All the engines are very efficient, but the diesel options are the stars for fuel economy. The 1.5-litre diesel can officially achieve up to 56.3mpg, which is an excellent figure for a seven-seat SUV.
Even the 1.2-litre petrol engine is impressively frugal, so you won’t be spending a fortune at the pumps. Low CO2 emissions also mean that road tax is affordable, and the diesel models in particular are a great choice for company car drivers thanks to the low tax bills.
Value for money
The 5008 has moved upmarket, and its prices have risen to reflect its premium feel and high level of standard equipment. It’s competitively priced against rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq, and you get a lot of car for your money. Because it’s such a popular and desirable car, it holds its value well, which is great news for owners as it means you’ll get more of your money back when you come to sell it.
Reliability & Warranty
Modern Peugeots have a much-improved reputation for reliability, and the 5008 feels like a solid and well-engineered product. From new, all Peugeots come with a three-year, 60,000-mile warranty, which provides good peace of mind when buying a nearly-new model.
Safety
Safety features
The Peugeot 5008 hasn't been specifically tested by the safety experts at Euro NCAP, but the smaller 3008, on which it is based, was awarded the maximum five-star rating. You can be very confident that the 5008 is a very safe car to transport your family in.
All models come with a good level of standard safety kit, including autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning. Higher-spec Allure models and above add even more clever tech, including high-beam assist, lane-keeping assist, a driver attention alert, and blind-spot monitoring.
