The Kia Ceed has come a long way since it first appeared in 2006. It was Kia’s first car designed and built in Europe, for Europeans, and it quickly became a best-seller. Now in its third generation (launched in 2018), the Ceed has shed its budget-car image and transformed into a seriously impressive family hatchback that can compete with the very best in the class. It’s a car that ticks all the boxes. It’s stylish, great to drive, incredibly practical, and packed with technology. The interior quality is a huge step up, feeling genuinely premium and well thought out. With a range of efficient engines and that famous seven-year warranty, the Ceed is a car that not only looks great but also gives you fantastic peace of mind. It’s a compelling alternative to mainstream rivals and a very clever choice for a family car.
Pros
- A very practical and spacious car for its class
- Comfortable and enjoyable to drive
- Comes with a great range of efficient engines
Cons
- Higher-specification models can get quite expensive
- Not as fun or engaging to drive as a Ford Focus
- The engine choice is a little limited
Interior

Dashboard & tech
The interior of the latest Ceed is a real highlight and shows just how far Kia has come. It’s a huge improvement over previous versions, with a smart, modern design and excellent build quality. The layout is simple and user-friendly, with buttons that are clearly laid out and easy to use. The materials are of good quality, and it feels like a much more expensive car than it is.
Depending on the trim level, you get either a seven- or eight-inch touchscreen infotainment system, which on most models includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This proves that you don't need to choose a premium German brand to get a high-quality, tech-filled cabin.
Comfort
The Ceed is a very comfortable car to live with every day. The ride is smooth and does a great job of soaking up bumps in the road, making it a relaxing car for both town driving and long motorway journeys. The seats are supportive, and there’s plenty of adjustment to help you find the perfect driving position.
The cabin is well-insulated from wind and road noise, adding to the refined and comfortable feel. It’s a car that makes every journey, long or short, a pleasant and stress-free experience for everyone on board.
Quality
Kia’s reputation for quality and reliability has improved massively over the years, and the latest Ceed is a testament to this. The interior feels solid and well-built, with materials that feel like they will stand the test of time. There’s a real sense of durability and quality that gives you confidence in the car’s longevity. This is all backed up by Kia’s industry-leading seven-year warranty, which provides fantastic peace of mind.
Practicality & boot space

Interior space
The Kia Ceed is a very practical car and excels when it comes to interior space. The cabin feels roomy, with plenty of headroom and legroom for passengers in both the front and back. Even tall adults will find they have enough space to get comfortable on a long journey, which is impressive for a car in this class.
There are also plenty of useful storage cubbies and compartments dotted around the cabin for storing your phone, drinks, and other everyday items. It’s a car that’s been designed with family life in mind.
Boot space
The Ceed has one of the biggest boots in the family hatchback class. It offers a very generous 395 litres of space, which is more than you’ll find in a Ford Focus or Volkswagen Golf. The boot has a low lip and a wide opening, which makes it easy to load and unload heavy or bulky items.
If you need even more practicality, the Ceed is also available as a Sportswagon estate model, which has a massive 600-litre boot. This makes it a brilliant choice for those who need to carry lots of luggage, sports equipment, or even the family dog.
Driving

Driving experience
The latest Kia Ceed is a genuinely enjoyable car to drive. It’s comfortable and easy to live with, but it also handles corners with confidence and feels composed and secure on the road. The steering is accurate and well-weighted, giving you a good sense of connection to the road.
It’s a car that strikes a great balance between comfort and fun. While it’s not quite as sharp or engaging to drive as a Ford Focus, it’s not far behind and is a huge improvement over previous generations. For those who want more excitement, the sporty GT model offers a proper hot hatch experience.
Performance
There’s a focused range of excellent petrol and diesel engines to choose from. The most popular petrol options are a 1.0-litre turbocharged engine with 118bhp, and a more powerful 1.4-litre turbo with 138bhp. Both offer a great blend of performance and economy, but the larger engine is the better choice if you regularly carry passengers or luggage.
For high-mileage drivers, the 1.6-litre diesel engine is a great option. It’s the most economical engine in the range, and while it’s not the quickest, it has plenty of pulling power for relaxed motorway cruising.
Running costs
Fuel economy & CO2 emissions
All the engines in the Ceed range are very efficient, which helps to keep running costs down. The 1.6-litre diesel is the star of the show when it comes to fuel economy, capable of achieving up to 74.3mpg in official tests, with very low CO2 emissions.
The petrol engines are also impressively frugal. The 1.0-litre petrol can return over 52mpg. Some models are available with an ‘Eco’ pack, which includes features like an active air flap in the grille to improve aerodynamics and further reduce fuel consumption.
Value for money
The Kia Ceed offers fantastic value for money. From new, it was priced very competitively against its main rivals, and it came with a generous amount of standard equipment. It also holds its value reasonably well for a mainstream hatchback, partly thanks to its long warranty and strong reputation for reliability. On the used market, it represents a very smart buy, with great deals available on nearly-new models.
Reliability & Warranty
Kia has a brilliant reputation for reliability, and owner satisfaction surveys consistently rate the brand very highly. The Ceed feels like a solid and dependable car that’s built to last. The biggest selling point, however, is Kia’s incredible seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty. This is one of the best in the business and provides an unrivalled level of peace of mind when buying a used car.
Safety
Safety features
The Kia Ceed is a very safe family car. It was awarded the maximum five-star rating when it was crash-tested by the safety experts at Euro NCAP, with high scores across the board. All models come with a good level of standard safety equipment, including lane-keeping assist, high-beam assist, and driver attention warning. Higher-spec models add more advanced features like automatic emergency braking and blind-spot collision warning.
Trims & Engines

The Ceed is available in a wide range of trim levels, all of which are well-equipped.
