I am now thousands of pounds out of pocket after purchasing a VW Crafter campervan from Sandy Gate Cars and Commercials in September 2025. What followed has been one of the most disappointing buying experiences I have ever had, and it raises serious concerns about the ethics and professionalism of this dealership. Below is a clear timeline of what happened: \U0001f539 Before Purchase The campervan was advertised as being in excellent condition with a full six-month warranty. I was repeatedly reassured the vehicle had no issues, was “pristine,” and everything — including the camper conversion — was fully covered under warranty. A \xa35,000 deposit was taken based on these assurances. \U0001f539 Day of Collection (4 September 2025) Immediately noticed front bumper damage that had not been disclosed. Discovered the locking wheel nut key was missing. Asked about the electrical systems but was told not to worry because “everything is covered by warranty.” Told the logbook and private plate transfer had been dealt with — which later turned out to be untrue. \U0001f539 First Week After Purchase Locking wheel nut key still missing despite repeated promises it would be sent. Developed concerns about: Faulty electric window switch Steering wheel controls failing Side marker light not working Multiple WhatsApp messages and calls were made and I was repeatedly told “don’t worry, everything is covered.” \U0001f539 Major Water Leak Discovered Water was pouring into the campervan through the roof, damaging: Roof lining Electrical systems Cabinets Mattress and bedding Sent videos and messages reporting the leak — ignored. Took the van to independent specialists, who confirmed the issues clearly existed at the time of sale. \U0001f539 Logbook / Registration Issues Despite assurances, the logbook was never submitted properly. Police pulled me over and confirmed the vehicle was not legally registered to me due to how Sandy Gate had handled it. I had to correct this myself at my own cost. \U0001f539 Communication Breakdown After initially promising to resolve everything, Sandy Gate Cars and Commercials gradually stopped responding. WhatsApp messages, calls, and requests for updates were ignored. No support was provided despite the “full warranty” they claimed covered all issues. I was left to pay for repairs myself — at significant cost. \U0001f539 Financial Impact I have been left with: Substantial repair bills Travel and accommodation costs Loss of use of the vehicle Significant stress and inconvenience A van that was not fit for purpose from the moment it was sold \U0001f539 Conclusion Based on my experience, I cannot recommend Sandy Gate Cars and Commercials. They advertise “honesty and reliability,” but my experience was the complete opposite. If you’re considering buying from them, I strongly recommend: ✔ Getting a full independent inspection before committing ✔ Not relying on verbal promises ✔ Being extremely cautious with the warranty claims I would urge other customers to think very carefully before purchasing a vehicle here.
